'Packed full of surreal, couldn't-make-it-up stories'
--The Scotsman

Product Description

Alan Aldridge burst upon the creative world of Sixtiesâ London just like The Beatles, for whom he worked. A charismatic personality with a fan base as strong as any rock star, Aldridge created exuberant, colourful designs, which conjured up grotesque monsters and gave form to universal fantasies, capturing the dreams and hallucinations of a generation. This illustrated biography charts Aldridgeâs life as a graphic entertainer, with paintings and drawings covering his whole career from 1964 right up to the present. Interspersed in some 250 colour illustrations are stories and anecdotes about those who Aldridge encountered along the way, among them Picasso, the Queen and Salvador Dalí.

By Dr. Delvis Memphistopheles TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
Not a big fan of the Beatles music but the graphic design of the era struck a chord, then, inbetween and now. This man summed up the acidic highs of the sixties through breaking through to the others side. A time when experimentation and belief that anything was possible. Not like now.

This contains elements of many of the later pop art visuals of the 21st century. I can see Todd Schorr, Mark Ryden, Jim Wood ring and thousands of others as he took from the surrealists and twisted in some cartoonery to create a parallela world of make believe as the 60's vaulted the wall and played in the earthly gardens.

Full of plates of imagination this is replete with the fruits of the era hanging laden and waiting to be plucked.
