From the Back Cover

You are a juror in a murder trial. They tell you your child will be safe. Your career will flourish. Your friends will remain alive. All you have to say are two words: not guilty.

With this icy ultimatum, George Dawes Green sets in motion an exquisitely harrowing account of a single mother fighting for her son's life and her own, as she is stalked, seduced and terrorized by the Mafia's most sinister representative - a man of insidious power and deadly precision, known only as the Teacher.

Lolita Davidovich is best known for her outstanding roles in such films as Intersection, Raising Cain, JFK and Blaze. She also starred in Prison Stories: Women on the Inside, which was nominated for an ACE award.

John Heard has acted in numerous roles on stage, film and television. His film credits include The Pelican Brief, In the Line of Fire, Home Alone I and II, Beaches and Big.

Abridged, running time approximately 180 minutes --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

3.0 out of 5 stars EXHAUSTING 23 Dec 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
A real page turner, but too contrived.

The "teacher" is a mafia hit man who proves to be invulnerable and invincible. In fact this aspect becomes very tiresome as no matter what ploy is set against him, the teacher manages to win. Of course we know that he's going to get his in the end, but it is a long time coming. By the time it happens I lost interest.

Nevertheless this is a well written and thougth provoking book. It's not great literature, so dont expect any intricate and dazzling sentence constuction or imagery; it's a little plain in it's writing. But if crime and thrill is your game then you wont be disapointed.

This was a very good first book for tHe author, but I am sure he can improve on his writing style.

5.0 out of 5 stars casual poetry 28 Jun 2011

it has a style all it's own, it's vivid, makes you feel queasy and anxious and then relieved in places, has properly interesting characters and an economy of language that is poetic rather than journalistic and plotty. Like RavensGeorge Dawes Green has a fresh angle, a novel eye and a witty turn.

1.0 out of 5 stars Grisham-clone fails to maintain interest 4 Sep 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is not a good book. It seems to aspire to be Grisham, but fails miserably to even approach the formulaic banality of the great Grisham. The plot is ill-conceived, the characters shallow and the attempts at excitement with love interests fall flat. It probably seemed a good idea to make a film adaptation, even with Demi Moore the film is better.
