Van Hunt quickly became one of my favourite soul singers in 2005 when i discovered his genius. "On The Jungle Floor" is his 2nd attempt that proves he isnt just a one-trick pony.

1.Intro/If I Take You Home - The start is just Van being silly then breaks into the first song which just sounds like it came fresh from the 70's with a strong Sly Stone sound to it which makes it one of the funkiest tracks 10/10

2.Hot Stage Lights - Another funky jam which although a bit less frantic that the first track it still makes a good impact and has you tapping your foot which is a cool 10/10

3.Dare Devil, Baby - The first 'ballad' of the song and is my favourite song i love this song it reminds me something from his debut (which i LOVE)this song touched me with its delicate piano and his voice very gentle the lyrics are just beautiful the guy can sing! 10/10

4.Ride,Ride,Ride - The biggest standout that's a total rock jam straight out of Lenny Kravitz mind lol its totally excellent and an enjoyable song to listen to you can just picture Lenny singing this 9/10

5.Being A Girl - At first with the intro beat i thought this was gonna be a poor attempt to break into the mainstream market but i was wrong this song is a smooth mid-tempo song about a women who knows how to be a girl a nice song 9/10

6.Suspicion - Another throwback song that im actually not to keen on but i don't skip it i just choose to give it much attention 5/10

Having bought his first, self titled album and worn it out with overuse, Van Hunt doesn't dissapoint with effort number 2. At times shades of Prince bring home the fact that this guy can do anything with his silky voice. Don't buy this album because you want more of what he served up on "Van Hunt", buy this album because you won't hear a better mix of great song writing backed up with outrageous vocal talent from one of the stars of the modern soul movement.

Van Hunt has a certain something special. His debut album "Van Hunt" was very impressive with creative energetic Funk tracks and some inspiring Soul ballads. His sophomore album "On The Jungle Floor", released two years later, follows in the same vein with some very interesting creations and tender moments.

"If I Take You Home" is a very addictive Funk Soul track with some interesting arrangements. "Hot Stage Lights" is a straight up Funk track with a Rock influence and some cool changes in the melody. "Daredevil, Baby" starts off as a sweet piano led ballad with beautiful strings playing in the background and then builds into an uplifting mid-tempo Rock track. "Ride, Ride, Ride" is a very energetic Rock track with some very engaging electric guitars. "Being A Girl" is quite an experimental track, halfway between R&B and Hip-Hop, but works with the other varied music on here. "Suspicion" is another superb slice of pure Funk and "Mean Sleep", featuring Nikka Costa, is another powerful Rock ballad. "Priest Or Police" and "Character" are possibly the only slightly monotonous tracks here as they are not that adventurous and do not stand out like the other songs do. "No Sense Of Crime" has very simple yet effective arrangements which allow the song to breathe and let out its raw emotion. The highlight of the album is the enigmatic "At The End Of A Slow Dance" which is simply a great Rock tune. "The Thrill Of This Love" is a strangely addictive weird Funk Rock track and "Hole In My Heart" has a unexpected Jazz influence whilst retaining the Funk element of the album. The final track "The Night Is Young" is a pleasant mid-tempo Pop Rock song and a nice to way to end the album.

Van Hunt seems to let loose a little more on this second outing "On The Jungle Floor" and the songs are more creative and experimental which allows the artist to show his true personality and originality. A very solid album and slightly more adventurous and exciting than his first.
