This book started exceptionally well but it did seem to lose pace later on. However, I did enjoy it and I found some parts of it absolutely fascinating. If you like conspiracies, then this is one of the biggest.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not sufficiently satisfying 16 Dec 1998
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
'The Judas Testament' starts off very promisingly but fails to deliver. The story is at first intriguing but it deteriorates into something that is not quite plausible or interesting. The main character alternates between being weak and sometimes suddenly heroic and this makes him unconvincing. One finds oneself loosing interest in him and therefore the story. Easterman may be a good writer but in this book he produces a story that fails to deliver all that it promises and where the seams are too visible.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as strong as the other titles 26 Mar 2010
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I found this novel below the usual Easterman standard. The book starts very well but then deteriorates steadily all the way to the muddled ending. It gives the impression of an author having to churn out a novel in a hurry to fulfil a publisher's contract.

I found it disconcerting to have characters lecturing each other on topics as diverse as European politics, WW2 or liberation theology in multi-page monologues. As a method of filling in background info it is very obvious. What happened to Ambrose Bierce's famous dictum of 'show, don't tell'?

I much preferred Easterman's Far-East novels, such as The Ninth Buddah and Incarnation.
