Naomi Cleaver's beautifully presented "The Joy of Home" succeeds where so many others fail. She has managed, in her recognisably erudite style, to produce what is in effect a lavishly illustrated "encyclopedia of interior design" with invaluable guidance for anyone with an interest in the quality, efficiency and style of their immediate surroundings, their home.
I particularly like the way one can access any subject through the use of the very comprehensive index. For example DIY or "Not Doing It Yourself", interior decorating or the technology of heating, lighting or insulation. You don't have to read from cover to cover; just pick out the bits that relate to your current needs or concerns, or alternatively if you are undertaking a total re-build, the sections of the book follow a logical progression from the initial design concept to successful completion.
Definitely a book to put on your own Christmas wish list or to buy as a gift for fellow home lovers.
