I'm a newcomer to Chris Rea's music, and love his songs, his voice and his guitar playing. Particular favourites include "I Can Hear Your Heartbeat", "Julia", "Stainsby Girls", "Heaven", "Ace Of Hearts", "The Road To Hell (Part 2)", "Auberge" and "Looking For The Summer".
Speaking even as a casual fan of Rea's fantastic music I have to say in view of the 40 reviews of "Still So Far To Go" against 5 for this one, that having listened to both, that this is definitely the superior Chris Rea compilation album. The packaging's nicer for a start, from the outer sleeve to the disc design. The sound quality is better - when you listen to the same tracks on both albums you can hear the difference - the sound on "Still So Far To Go" isn't in anyway bad, but this is better. There are a handful of tracks that differ on both albums, and apart from "Nothing To Fear" and maybe one or two others from "Still So Far To Go", the overall track listing I feel is better on "The Journey".
Finally some tracks which are on both albums are different versions. The versions of "I Can Hear You Heartbeat" and "Stainsby Girls" on this one are the superior originals, on "Still So Far To Go" they're the 1988 remixes. Other tracks that differ either in arrangement or length are "Jospehine" (French Edit on "The Journey"), "Diamonds" (Single Edit on "Still So Far To Go") and "The Blue Cafe", but I haven't particularly got a preference with any of these.
Bit long-winded but most reviews I've read slate this as "merely another compilation" especially in view of the very popular and successful "Still So Far To Go" released two years earlier, but that is not so - this is the best one out there.

Although I have heard most of the tracks on this compilation many time before I had never bought them on CD but having seen this bargain I could not resist. I say that one never gets tired of hearing great tunes and a strong guitar and will be playing these for a long time to come
