Ill make 4 brief reviews here as its a boxset. You cannot go wrong with this boxset and I cannot believe no reviews have been made of this 4 movie set which spans 3 decades of the dukes 6 decade carrer. We start off with, and ill do these in their order of release. The Searchers,1956,considered a western classic of one mans search for the niece stolrn by the indians after his family is butchered and the movie spans yrs of his quest to find her, played by a very young,Natalie Wood!Fantastic locations and beautifully shot,a true classic, then,Rio Bravo 1959.A Sheriff and his deputies are held up in the towns jail till the authories come to tame the town. You have Dean Martin in his first best roll since going solo from Jerry Lewis plus a vat of character actors in a two hour plus entertaining western, which borders on the classic tag.Chisum,1970.One of my favourites, mixes mystery and myth, with the likes of Pat Garret and Billy the Kid and the "CHISUM"county and cattle war, which was more documented in "Young Guns!"1988,but this more entertaining and full of fist fights, gunfights, plenty of movie stars and is a real John Wayne Movie. The last,Cahill,US,Marshall,1973.Is blood and bullets. As the 70s introduced more violence with Clint Eastwood movies,so the Wayne camp came in on it too, from its exciting bloody opening to its ending, this is John Wayne nearing the end of his carrer in true style.George Kennedy shines here as a real sinister baddy and Wayne is the father of two boys gone bad.Great ending with a sentimental touch whech will leave yer smiling. All round a great 4 movie collection.

Disappointing as more than half of the 23 features are NTSC not PAL format, and 3 are not John Wayne Films as such.
Titles are: Riders of Destiny, Sagebrush Trail, West of the Divide, Man from Utah, Lucky Texan, Desert Trail, Randy rides alone, Trail Beyond,Paradise Canyon, 'Neath Arizone skies, Lawless Range, Lawless Frontier, Star Packer, Blue Steel, Dawn Rider, Texas Terror, Hell Town, Frontier, McLintock, Angel and the Badman. The other 3 are John Wayne on flm, American west of John Ford, John Wayne in The Lucy TV show. Most dated 1933-1935. Amazon should have been more specific in its advert.

The John Wayne Collection is a set of 20 Western movies with 3 extra features. The boxset consists of 12 DVDs in 6 slim double-cases and outer slip-case. Very nicely presented, complete with picture discs, a different photo of John Wayne on each case cover, original movie artwork and synopsis on the reverse, and menus in the inners; it isn't hard to find your way around this set, kudos to delta for the effort.

What should be noted and is IMPORTANT to understand BEFORE you buy this set is that the films, whilst all Region 0 (region free), are a mixture of PAL and NTSC format. If you are using a home DVD player in the UK it is more likely to only play PAL format discs, {{see March 2013 update below}} in which case only 10 of the 23 features may work. If you have a multi-system DVD player, or are using a PC/laptop media drive to watch them on then they should all work. I do not know why delta did not simply convert all the features to PAL format, as you'd expect it would allow them to sell more copies and get less returns.

** Update: March 2013 **
I should correct myself here, regarding home DVD players. Because both Britain and Japan are Region 2 zones, and many DVD players are designed and/or manufactured there, I have learned that the majority of modern players support both PAL (which Britain uses) and NTSC (which Japan uses), in the case of European players. In terms of American players, the majority will play NTSC but not support PAL as readily. So whilst there is no guarantee that all these discs will run on a hacked/unlocked multi-region player, the odds are still very high for players manufactured since 2000. Owners of older players might want to check with their manufacturer or user manual to be certain.

Format: Blu-ray
Having read all the negative comments,I thought the hell with it ,I will buy the John Wayne Blu-ray Collection.

Apart from Mclintock which is pan & scan crap,Bad Quality

The old 1930's Westerns are reasonable quality.
No where near top notch, but better than some of the public domain DVD's.

Contains
THE DAWN RIDER
TEXAS TERROR
THE TRAIL BEYOND
THE STAR PACKER
HURRICANE EXPRESS. Feature Version of the old Mascot Serial.Quite nice quality too.

The Westerns are LoneStar Productions ,which no longer exist. So I for one am grateful
to the Distributors for releasing these on Blu-ray.

All in all for the price a good buy.
Its doubtful any film prints have survived, maybe 16mm ones,
These transfers were done in the early 90's
I am watching them on a 64inch Samsung Plasma TV,and they look ok.Nowhere near perfect but OK.

Though OLIVE films have released 4 with another 3 on the way of some of his 40's films ,which are Brilliant Quality.
and much better films than the LoneStar ones.
