Product Description

Ryder Dean was Scout Rutherford's alter ego, her ally, her comrade in adventures since they were eight years old. And there was a pretty good chance she was in love with him.
So why was she marrying Noel Trace?
Because he was rich, older and he said YES.
The last person Scout wants to see at her wedding is Ryder. But there he is--gray-green eyes, wheat-blonde hair that was darker at the roots and perpetually messy, wearing his one good suit. He was watching her walk down the aisle like he knew something was going to go wrong.
And then it did.
The groom went to his bachelor party the night before the wedding and hasn't been seen since. From the moment Scout reads the note he left, her life is turned upside down. She is shot at, lied to, forced to reveal a secret, abducted at gunpoint and thrown down a ravine. But a night spent in hiding with her friend Ryder Dean changes everything she believed about their friendship and most of all, about herself.

Nothing ever happens in Mandrake Falls. Except the day Scout Rutherford got jilted.

More About the Author

Catherine Lloyd is a psychological suspense writer by day and a romance writer by night, currently publishing under a pseudonym. Catherine has two grown children, a cat named Harry and a dog named Pyro. She loves reading first and foremost, writing second, red wine and a fire in the hearth are third. If she got all of the above, all at the same time, it would mean she was dead because that is heaven.

Catherine's romance and psychological suspense novels are not-too-distant cousins. Both explore the the consequences of taking a risk and the truly high stakes of putting one's heart on the line.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable romance 6 May 2014
By Deborah TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Scout and Ryder have been friends nearly all their lives and on several occasions it looked like it could turn into more in fact they've skirted the attraction for years but it's a hard barrier to cross since once you do there's no going back and the friendship they've had for years could change and change it does with a proposal and a rejection. Now Scout had a plan and this plan always featured Ryder but even without Ryder she's still got the plan so six months after Ryder's rejection Scout finds herself marrying Noel Trace and while he may not be Ryder he's older, rich, he loves her but most importantly he proposed and he wants the same things she does the farmhouse and the kids. So as far as Scout is concerned half a plan is better than no plan and everything will be perfect, well it could have been but then it all started to go wrong when Trace doesn't turn up for the wedding and leaving Scout a note, Scout wants answers so with Ryder in tow......
What follows is a light hearted adventure that will have you smiling and shaking your head and at times if you're like me you'll feel like banging Scout and Ryder's heads together.
Nice enjoyable romance.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Jilting. 10 May 2014

Not for me I'm afraid. I felt the content was all over the place and that the writer was 'somehow' trying too hard '. There was no depth in the story, and I definately will not look for any further Mandrake Falls romances

4.0 out of 5 stars Two Stories, One Heroine 30 May 2014
By HappyHeart1993 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the first book I've read by Catherine Lloyd, and I truly enjoyed it. Scout, the heroine, is, on the surface, a simple character. As you read, however, you begin to see that she's actually smart, funny, vulnerable, and sweet. I found myself rooting for her even knowing she was making a mistake in her choice of groom.

Ryder, the hero ... I have to admit, I wanted to smack him a couple of times. It's clear he loves Scout--really loves her, not just the best friend thing he thinks he has going on. At the same time, though, when Scout asked him to marry her at Christmas, he said some really hurtful things. And at one point in the book, I really thought Ms. Lloyd was going to let him disappoint me completely, but never fear.

In addition to the story between Scout and Ryder, there's the mystery surrounding the money and Scout's "other" guy, her fiancé. Both stories wrapped up nicely, and the only reason I didn't give five stars is that I felt Ryder needed to do a little more groveling. He said the cruel (and not quite accurate) things to Scout when he turned down her proposal because he didn't feel he was good enough (that's totally my take on it, mind you), then he disappeared for months. He owed Scout a lot more explanation and apology than he gave her.

Overall, I enjoyed The Jilting, and will look for more of Ms. Lloyd's work. I loved her writer's voice. I'd recommend this to those who enjoy a sweet romance set in a small town. Does have some language and sex scenes.
