The Jefferson Allegiance: # 2 Nationally Bestselling eBook.

NY Times bestselling author, Bob Mayer. Over 4 million books sold.

Book 1 in the Presidential Series

The 4th of July 1826. As Thomas Jefferson lies dying, he gives his part of his Jefferson Cipher to Edgar Allen Poe, with instructions to take the disks to West Point. In Massachusetts, John Adams entrusts his part of the Cipher to Colonel Thayer, the superintendent of the Military Academy. As Thayer rides away, Adams utters his final words: “Thomas Jefferson survives.”

In the present, Green Beret Paul Ducharme has been recalled from Afghanistan after the ‘accidental’ death of his best friend, the son of one of the Philosophers. While Ducharme is visiting his friend’s gravesite in Arlington, an old man is executed by a member from the Society of Cincinnati know as the Surgeon, who is seeking to gather all the pieces of the cipher. In a nearby restaurant, former CIA and now Curator at Monticello, Evie Tolliver, waits anxiously for her mentor to arrive, but he’s killed by the same assassin at the Zero Milestone. His heart and the Philosopher’s head are displayed as a grisly message on top of the stone, echoing Jefferson’s famous head-heart letter.

Ducharme and Tolliver, the unknowing heirs to become the next generation of caretakers of the Jefferson Allegiance, team up and must battle the Surgeon to assemble the Cipher and find the Jefferson Allegiance, a document that has kept the balance of power in the United States for over two centuries.

The story is a race back through history and the founding of the country.
This is the first book in a new series: The Presidential Thrillers, each novel based on a historical puzzle left behind by a President. The Kennedy Endeavor will be released in summer 2012.

THE FACTS:
The Society of the Cincinnati was founded in May of 1783. A leading member was Alexander Hamilton, and the first President of the Society was George Washington. Thomas Jefferson was not allowed membership. The Society of the Cincinnati is the oldest, continuous military society in North America. It has its current headquarters at the Anderson House in downtown Washington, DC.

In 1802, President Thomas Jefferson, well known for his strong opposition to a standing army, established the United State Military Academy, the oldest Military Academy in North America. In 1819, Thomas Jefferson founded the University of Virginia, the first college in the United States to separate religion from education. It has its current headquarters in Philosophical Hall on Liberty Square in Philadelphia.

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” Thomas Jefferson 1787.

More About the Author

West Point Graduate, former Green Beret and NY Times bestselling author Bob Mayer has had over 50 books published. He has sold over five million books, and is in demand as a team-building, life-changing, and leadership speaker and consultant for his Who Dares Wins concept.

He's been on bestseller lists in thriller, science fiction, suspense, action, war, historical fiction and is the only male author on the Romance Writers of America Honor Roll.

Born in the Bronx, Bob attended West Point and earned a BA in psychology with honors and then served as an Infantry platoon leader, a battalion scout platoon leader, and a brigade recon platoon leader in the 1st Cavalry Division. He joined Special Forces and commanded a Green Beret A Team. He served as the operations officer for 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and with Special Operations Command (Special Projects) in Hawaii. Later he taught at the Special Forces Qualification Course at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg, the course which trains new Green Berets. He lived in Korea where he earned a Black Belt in Martial Arts. He's earned a Masters Degree in Education.

His books have hit the NY Times, Publishers Weekly, Wall Street Journal and numerous other bestseller lists. His book The Jefferson Allegiance, was released independently and reached #2 overall in sales on Nook.

Bob Mayer grew up in the Bronx. After high school, he entered West Point where he learned about the history of our military and our country. During his four years at the Academy and later in the Infantry, Mayer questioned the idea of "mission over men." When he volunteered and passed selection for the Special Forces as a Green Beret, he felt more at ease where the men were more important than the mission.
Mayer's obsession with mythology and his vast knowledge of the military and Special Forces, mixed with his strong desire to learn from history, is the foundation for his science fiction series Atlantis, Area 51 and Psychic Warrior. Mayer is a master at blending elements of truth into all of his thrillers, leaving the reader questioning what is real and what isn't.

He took this same passion and created thrillers based in fact and riddled with possibilities. His unique background in the Special Forces gives the reader a sense of authenticity and creates a reality that makes the reader wonder where fact ends and fiction begins.

In his historical fiction novels, Mayer blends actual events with fictional characters. He doesn't change history, but instead changes how history came into being.

Mayer's military background, coupled with his deep desire to understand the past and how it affects our future, gives his writing a rich flavor not to be missed.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Jefferson Allegiance 8 Nov 2012
By Eileen
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I would have found this book more gripping if it were not for the lack of cohesion between the past and the present. It was often difficult to see the links and therefore I often lost interest even though I managed to complete the book. The idea of the hidden allegiance was good but the writing was confused.

One thing you usually can't fault Mayer on is the vaste amount of history, factual knowledge, juicy tidbits and the occasional conspiracy theory in his novels.
More often than not I find myself looking up something mentioned in his books that I was previously unaware of.
The premise is quite good, very national pride, prunk and glory sort of thing. I enjoyed the way Mayer managed to link the idea back to many important historical events and figures throughout the centuries. As for the plot it was wishy washy and repetitive in parts.
I find when Mayer mixes his historical plots and the modern ones his storylines don't always gel well. Unlike his Black Ops series, which is much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars A mix of fact and fiction with murder 5 Nov 2011
By marglyn
Format:Kindle Edition
This book was sent to me to read on my kindle. From the start this is a gripping story of two factions (the oldest ones in America) trying to outwit each other. The way fact and fiction is woven together is brilliant, lots of murder and mayhem some of it pretty grisly in places. Its all about power and order coming down through the ages until present day. Who will win? The answer is to read this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars If you love American history and action... 25 Oct 2011

...you should read The Jefferson Allegiance. Written by a West Point-educated, Special Forces officer, this novel interweaves little-known historical details with compelling, fast paced action. This is the first Bob Mayer book that I've read, but it won't be the last.

Wow! I love the history as he wove it into the story. Makes you wonder where it diverges from real into story. Makes you think; and, is VERY applicable to today's politics! I know there are problems with the Kindle version(spelling, word order, etc.) but, I don't care! I loved this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining read, but a little unsatisfying 29 Nov 2011
By ilbob - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book has a lot of elements I like. Conspiracies, guns, action, etc. A heroic figure who presses on to do right. So I thought I would really like it. It turned out to be "OK", but not that great.

It has a lot of the authors common plot twists and turns, but this time around they just did not seem especially well put together.

WARNING: PLOT SPOILER FOLLOWS

The gist of the story is that a secret codicil to the US constitution was enacted at the behest of Thomas Jefferson. The codicil leaves it up to a secret society to determine if the president has exceeded his bounds and gives the secret society the power to order the military to remove him from office.

I never really believed this was possible. The problem with such a secret is that no one knows about it, so as a practical matter it really does not exist. The citizens at large would never accept the idea of a military coup based on some secret society's determination that it was necessary. It is totally incompatible with our entire form of government for such a codicil to even exist, much less ever be put into use.

In fact, the constitution itself would never allow for such a pact, as it would have required an amendment approved by 3/4 of the states at the time, and that could not have happened and still be kept a secret. One would think a college educated individual like the author would recognize this glaring flaw in the main premise of the story.

I think the idea was a good one, but the author never made it plausible to me. I have to have that to truly enjoy a story like this. I don't have to believe every word in the book, but I have to believe it is possible at least. And I never believed. In fact, the closer we got to revealing what the Jefferson Allegiance is, the less I believed it would have the effect the book claimed.
