Having done a superb job in bringing all the original Ian Fleming stories to comic strip format, this series of Omnibus editions moves smoothly towards new horizons with a volume of stories specially written for the medium and an excellent adaptation of Kingsley Amis's Bond novel 'Colonel Sun' with it's tastefully handled but ultimately chilling torture scene featuring an assault on our hero's inner ear with a skewer ( it was MUCH more graphically described in the book!!!). Horak, the artist, really gets into his stride now and the writing is still Flemingesque.

Continues the series of newspaper strips and if they lack that quirkiness that Fleming brought to the character the artist Horak maintains his sperb skill in his depiction. Good production though the strip panels do suffer from this amount of reduction and they, if printed on better quality paper, would have looked and 'read' so much better. Even so, for true fans recommended.

James Bond comic book 24 May 2012
By Alan M. Mandel - Published on Amazon.com

Well we started with Dick Tracy comic books in newspapers and finally Bond has arrived just in time as we celebrate 50 years of the release of the first James Bond movie Dr No in September 2012. The book is the third volume as the first two had comics of the orginal movies where this one in volume 3 are all new stories and is well written with suspense in each page. Please order it and then check out volume 1 and volume 2 as well. Bond! James Bond!
Especially for those literary Bond fans 5 July 2014

I was very very skeptical of buying this as I didn't know how the writers handled Fleming's spy in the heyday of the Connery phenomenon. My fear was that these stories would be rife with cheesy characters, world domination plots and gadgetry. Luckily these guys hadn't heard of or thought about an invisible car and these stories remind me of Queen and Country. Realism runs all through these stories. The plots are realistic and Bond actually experiences fear and loss when someone he cares about is killed. He's actually stabbed and makes mistakes, closer to Fleming's flawed blunt instrument than Moore's cartoon portrayal.
Surprisingly the three-panel black and white structure does not distract and actually makes the reading and continuity better.
I do wish there was more behind the scenes stuff like maybe an essay by one of the Bond actors or subsequent authors. Otherwise a great buy.
Well Done.... 22 Sept. 2012

I found that the omnibus captured the spirit of Ian Fleming's masterpieces...It is the way he wanted to see plot play out; before the movie studios went nuts....It is true, gritty & most importantly an enjoyble read that will make you want to turn the pages over, without the regard for time...I was up till 4am absorbing ...Bond....James Bond....
Well Presented 29 Nov. 2012

The strip that was missing from the paperback,I think it was 970 only published in Scotland on Good Friday,1969 is now included,I found the copy at The British Library. The compilation of the entire series has been well completed, a pity the numbering had to start again on a number of occasions which can be confusing.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for a fellow Bond fan. I'd never read the English cartoons before. I quite enjoyed the artwork and the stories. I really enjoyed Colonel Sun-my favorite non Fleming book.
