Book Description

15 Sep 2011
The Itchy Sea is an extraordinarily vivid collection of poems which are, above all, entertaining. The poems each have a kind of freshness and cut-through that will hold the reader’s attention in a world that’s full of dazzling distractions. They are a protest against the well-founded idea that poetry has to be dull. Their concerns are sex, death, the soul and a chocolate car. Beneath their shiny surfaces they are an intense but carefree therapy session for all our infantile ids.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Business 5 Jan 2013
Format:Paperback
If you want to read poems that are actually, radically original, you will find many in this book. Originality is over-claimed, and possibly over valued, (at least when its simply surface novelty), and if read with distraction these poems might come across as whimsical, rococo playthings. But if the reader allows their imagination to take real and firm purchase on the conceit that governs each poem, then a quite extraordinary imaginative landscape opens up, Darien style, and we are transported directly into what has never been described before. His is a Heironymous Bosch like world, and the rewards are similar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Entertaining 6 July 2012

After hearing Mark Waldron reading some of his poetry, as well as others, the other night, I just had to get this book. On the night itself 'The Chocolate Car' (page 14 in this collection) went down very well with all present.

Some of these poems are slightly reminiscent of the Beat Generation, and perhaps that may be where Mark has leanings to. All of these poems herein give you vivid imagery and make you see things in a different way, all of them are highly entertaining and are a joy to read. Well worth getting.
