'Nostalgic and entertaining ... beautiful and atmospheric photographs' --The Irish Post

'Endearing ... Craic on!'
--The World of Interiors

Product Description

This nostalgic and entertaining tour of Irelandâs most individual hostelries presents the historic pubs that epitomize the countryâs essential charm. They range from the richly decorated Victorian bars of Belfast and Dublin to country shop bars that double as grocery stores, where the décor consists of shelves laden with tins of fruit and packets of tea. Each pub is covered in four or six pages, with about 1,000 words of colourful description, history and anecdote, and atmospheric photographs that capture its interior and ambience.

I bought this for my Irish father who now lives in England. He visits Ireland regularly and knows some of the pubs in this book. Would make a great present for anyone with Irish roots or also if you're planning on going on holiday there it would be a handy guide of places to stop off at for a pint! A lovely freeze frame of Irish pubs.

As good as it looks 16 Dec 2011

A beautiful book.

The pictures are of very different places, from very simple-looking
to ones with elaborate interior, but they all share and convey this special comfortable
traditional pub feeling.

I wish the designers of 'Irish pubs' that spring up all over the world
looked through it at least once.

I love this book. It gives you a sense of why the pub has been central to Irish life and craic for so many generations. The quintessential Irish pub has been reproduced throughout the world, but the real thing resides only in Ireland. It would be a worthwhile road trip to visit every one of the pubs highlighted here before they are gone. Beautifully done.
