Nate and Cat thought they had destroyed the evil inventor Ebenezer Saint. But they were wrong. Now everybody seems to be acting strangely. It's only when Nate and Cat witness their friend Allan being struck by a car that their worst fears come true. 5.0 out of 5 stars The Inventors - great read 18 July 2008
A Kid's Review
Review of The Inventors, The city of stolen souls

In the previous book of this series, two resourceful inventors called Cat and Nate have just escaped from the evil Saints solutions, the multi-billion pound electronics company. With the master inventor and international billionaire Ebenezer Saint threatening to destroy the world Cat and Nat had to destroy Saint Solutions and kill Saint himself.

Having escaped from Saint Solutions and killed the master inventor, Nate and Cat find themselves in Greenland. All seems well (apart from the freezing cold) until Nate spots a shadowy figure on the horizon. Their worst fears are confirmed and the pair has to fight tooth and nail to escape.

Having returned home from Greenland Nat and Cat try to spread the word about Saint but no-one will listen. When Saint shopping malls start springing up around town something is seriously wrong. The town's occupants were being transformed into mindless zombies shopping until they quite literally drop.

Cat, Nate and their two pet robots Clint and Camilla set out to find out what's going on and destroy the malls. But, all is not as it seems. Their greatest foe becomes their greatest ally on a mission to destroy these creatures hell bent on creating a new "better" world.

This is a very good book suitable for all different ages from around nine to fourteen or older even. Although not entirely essential, it would be much easier if you read the first book in the inventor's series (The Inventors); there are many references to it that might not make sense to the reader if you were just reading it without reading the first one.

Overall, a very good book with thrills laughs and twists and everything you could want in 330 pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sequel 15 Jun 2008
Just when they thought they were safe....
Brilliant sequel to a great story. The second book in the Inventor's story is fast paced, exciting and full of twists and turns. Alexander Smith's writing will keep you hooked, make you scared and make you chuckle from one sentance to the next.
Highly recommended, when's the next one out?!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Imaginative and Funny! 5 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is the second book and it's starts right where book 1 left off. Nate and Cat have escaped from Saint Solutions but are stranded in Greenland with no way of getting home, but when they do get there life is just so normal! no heroes welcome or well done, they just have to get on with life and return to school, that is until a new plot emerges to take over the world. Nate and Cat must once more come together to save all those they love.
I actually enjoyed this book more than the first, the storyline was good and the pace was great, the book ran smoothly and was exciting.
I love the main characters and their relationship and trust, but my favourite character has to be Clint, he is so funny, cheeky and sweet and Camilla is an excellent new character, had me laughing out loud in so many places.
Saint was once more terrifyingly sinister yet compelling and the idea was so believable I shall think twice before going shopping again. hehe.
I felt this book had more of the spark that book 1 was missing and I read it quite quickly. A great fun read that will keep you smiling. Good for all ages and full of imagination.
