Those who go where they're not wanted don't always get to leave

Product Description

Joel Demetrius is quite looking forward to moving in with his new step-family, but as far as his sister Cassie's concerned, they're nothing but intruders. She doesn't want anything to do with Gerald and his two sons, and to make matters worse their new home is a derelict old house, neglected for decades. Joel thinks it's interesting. Cassie thinks it's a dump. But his sister isn't the only reason the house doesn't feel like a home. As fascinated as he is by the place, Joel has to admit there's something not quite right about it. Not only does he keep seeing things out of the corner of his eye, but his sleep is plagued by nightmares. He can't seem to stop dreaming about a terrified boy who keeps repeating the same fractured prayer:IF I SHOULD DIE BEFORE I WAKE, I PRAY THE LORD MY SOUL TO TAKE . . .As events in the house become harder and harder to explain, it seems that the line between nightmare and reality is getting steadily more blurred. And when the battle between Cassie and her step-brothers draws everyone deeper into the mystery, all four kids are forced to confront the question of just who the intruders really are.

An Excellent Read 28 Jun 2007
Format:Paperback
We bought this book as a "free" selection in a 3 for 2 offer - the other two being choices my son's wanted and this being an unknown to give a try. It sat gathering dust until my eldest(age 15) ran out of reading material. He finished it within 24 hours and declared it brilliant It was then passed along to his brother (age 12) who demolished it in an equally fast time and has put her other books on his most wanted list. I always make a point of reading the books that my sons do and so took my turn. What a page turner. The "ghost" story is really quite standard but the weaving of the four step-sibling relationships into the plot is brilliantly done and moves the story from standard to superb. I would put the book into the age 8-12 category but it can easily slip over and appeal to the teenage market. It is one of those books that I would recommend for reluctant readers, especially those in the teenage category since it does not look like a junior book and would not damage their image to be seen with it!

I was first introduced to the author form reader his gripping tale ''the devil's footsteps'' i then bought this book, as i really liked the author and wanted to see more of his work. As expected the story was brillient, just like the other, however i found the storyline was slightly slower than '...footsteps' (though still equally gripping). Some very chilling exciting scenes, gave me goosbumps :P ... brings your fears to life in a way, anyone scraed of looking in the mirror and seeing that your not alone in your bathroom EEK! anyone scared off what lurks in your attic? or in your bedroom? shadows in your garden? or head buzzing chants? .... you've got to read it!! and the other one!!

Although this book gave me nightmares, I enjoyed it. It was extremely good. I think that E.E. Richardson is a very talented writer. I wouldn't reccomend this book to young readers.
