Book Description

12 April 2007 International Design Yearbook (Book 21)
In this, the twenty-first edition of the leading international showcase of domestic design, guest editor and acclaimed Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola surveys the best furniture, lighting, tableware, textile, and product designs of the last two years. Her eclectic selections range from futuristic kitchen products to chandeliers glowing and moving like jellyfish to wallpaper ripe with political imagery. The latest technologies are also featured, including a pen-shaped, Art Deco cellular phone from Nokia, the newest wireless music centers from Sonos and Phillips, and Apple's most recent iPod variations and accessories. Each object is illustrated with the superb photography that has helped earn the series its excellent reputation. In addition, full technical information, including a web address, is provided for each entry. Designers whose work is featured in the book include luminaries such as Ron Arad, Tord Boontje, Andrea Branzi, Tom Dixon, Zaha Hadid, Ross Lovegrove, Ingo Maurer, Jasper Morrison, Gaetano Pesce, Karim Rashid, Richard Sapper, Philippe Starck, and Marcel Wanders. A biography is provided for each designer. As always, introductions by the editors provide insight into both the selection and the trends and issues currently influencing the design world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good one 5 Jan 2013

This International Design Yearbook is a good one. I rank Patricia Urquiola, Karim Rashid, and Tom Dixon's books higher, but that may be purely personal preference in content and organizational methodology. This one, however, is also quite good. These books are gems to scoop up, as they are now a relic of past ideas of what the future of design will bring. It is telling to see how well these ideas panned out, and to see where these early kernels have taken us today. Clearly, each of these should be studied in design school.

Great book... interesting design descriptions. Worthwhile addition to your collection. On a personal note... I own the chair that's pictured on the cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars I. D. Review 29 Mar 2000
By Tyler S. C. - Published on Amazon.com
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. There are commentaries on design at the introduction, which I found informative and interesting. Also, the quality of work that is displayed is absolutely amazing. There is verything from furniture to lighting, to the most innovative products of our time. The editors did a fantastic job on the page layout, truly a mastery of graphic design as well. Another great series of books along these lines is the Graphis yearbooks. I love the book, and I can't stop looking at it!
