Product Description

Windows 8 is the biggest overhaul of the world's most popular operating system since Windows 95. Everyone who uses a personal computer will have to get to grips with it.

But should you invest time and money in an upgrade?

And if you are faced with the system pre-installed, how will you navigate your way around new commands, or make the best of its new features?

The Instant Guide to Windows 8 is a simple accessible guide that tells you everything you need to know about how to get the best out of your software.

Leading technology writer Ian Barker details the changes and updates in the new system, explaining how Windows 8 operates differently from earlier versions of Windows - and how it works alongside existing software.

You can use the book both as a step-by-step guide taking you right from the installation to how to make the most of multimedia, and also as a useful resource for more specific questions. The chapter breakdowns make the answers to every question easy to find.

The Instant Guide to Windows 8 includes chapters on:

What’s new?
Installing Windows 8
Start menu and apps
Charms and settings
The desktop
Ease of access
Power management
Networks and Internet
Safety and security
System maintenance
Multimedia
Hints and tips
Useful keyboard short cuts

It is the easy, one-stop guide every Windows user needs, whether they are an IT Professional or a home user.

Ian Barker spent almost 20 years in IT before he discovered that writing about computers was easier than fixing them. He is a former editor of PC Tools and PC Utilities magazines and has contributed to many other titles and websites.

Having got the new Windows I was very lost as it looks completely different to what I've been accustomed to. I found this guide really useful in helping me through the process of understanding all the new elements. I am getting really confident on the system now and loving all the new additions.

A great and simple guide for those that need to get themselves up and running on the new Windows.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful & Informative Guide 9 Oct 2012
By Rachel
Format:Kindle Edition
I recently downloaded this guide to help me understand the new changes with Windows 8 and haven't regret my purchase for a second. The author clearly outlines how to use the new software in language that is easy to understand, divided into clear and approachable sections; no question was left unanswered. Including some useful keyboard shortcuts was particularly appreciated! I'll be keeping this as a reference guide should I need help with Windows 8 in the future.

I ordered this guide couple of days before I got my Windows 8.

Very useful introduction to a new operating system, short and to the point.

I would recommend it to anyone who is a standard computer user

1.0 out of 5 stars A few pages of superficial commentary 3 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A complete waste of money. No illustrations at all and just a few pages of superficial narrative . Not user friendly - just a rip off.
