Product Description

Product Description

The Insanity of God is the personal and lifelong journey of an ordinary couple from rural Kentucky who thought they were going on just your ordinary missionary pilgrimage, but discovered it would be anything but. After spending over six hard years doing relief work in Somalia, and experiencing life where it looked like God had turned away completely and He was clueless about the tragedies of life, the couple had a crisis of faith and left Africa asking God, "Does the gospel work anywhere when it is really a hard place? It sure didn't work in Somalia.

Nik recalls that, “God had always been so real to me, to Ruth, and to our boys. But was He enough, for the utter weariness of soul I experienced at that time, in that place, under those circumstances?” It is a question that many have asked and one that, if answered, can lead us to a whole new world of faith.

How does faith survive, let alone flourish in a place like the Middle East? How can Good truly overcome such evil? How do you maintain hope when all is darkness around you? How can we say “greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world” when it may not be visibly true in that place at that time? How does anyone live an abundant, victorious Christian life in our world’s toughest places? Can Christianity even work outside of Western, dressed-up, ordered nations? If so, how?

The Insanity of God tells a story—a remarkable and unique story to be sure, yet at heart a very human story—of the Ripkens’ own spiritual and emotional odyssey. The gripping, narrative account of a personal pilgrimage into some of the toughest places on earth, combined with sobering and insightful stories of the remarkable people of faith Nik and Ruth encountered on their journeys, will serve as a powerful course of revelation, growth, and challenge for anyone who wants to know whether God truly is enough.

I bought this book to take away on my Holidays with me and received it about a week before I was due to go. I couldn't help but start it to see what it was like as it had been recommended by a friend of mine. Needless to say I finished it before I went away as it was such a compelling read.

Ther first half of the book Nik talks about his ministry, specifically in Somalia which in itself is a tremendous story. The second half the book will blow your mind. Hand on heart I openly had to disguise my tears on the train as it was so emotional reading about MY brothers and sisters and their courageous stories of Faith and Endurance.

I cannot recommend this book enough, some challenging lessons personally as well as encouraging stories that will inspire and invigorate your Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Blessings in Jesus.

After the Bible this must be one of the most challenging book I have ever read.

It is extremely challenging and thought provoking as it speaks of believers in countries where persecution is rife and men and women suffer and die for their faith.

The book describes how these Christian believers deal with such, shining as lights in the midst of darkness

It would be impossible to commend this book to highly.

When I think of some other book I have given five stars to it makes me think this deserves six, seven or eight, so good is it

Just finished the insanity of God. The second half of the book challenges you right to the core and causes you to ask the question I'm I really living for Jesus or better still am I living with Jesus. A must read book.

If you cannot be bothered to read this full review, I'll tell you now. BUY IT! Fantastic, deeply inspiring book.

It moved me deeply, I read through it pretty quickly which for me is pretty rare, because I am a slow reader but I just could not put it down.

If you are a Christian, and you love Jesus deeply and have a heart for our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world, then this book will convict and move you. At times it's heartbreaking, but in light of the faithfulness and courage of some of the men and women he interviews the book doesn't cease being inspiring - purely because of the real stories he shares.

The first half of the book is about Nik Ripken's own personal journey, it's a bit more of a bio of his time spent directly in mission work in Somalia. Where as the second half of the book talks through the amazing experiences of the believers he interviewed in China, Russia and other countries. If you love the Lord, you won't fail to be moved (as I keep saying!) and called to action after reading some of these stories.

I thoroughly recommend you read this book. You will not regret it. Although if you are quite happy in your comfortable life, don't read this because it may shake your foundations!

I read this in 2 sittings ( would have been one but I had to cook dinner) it evoked many emotions in me, and made me realise that although I claim to be a follower of Christ I seldom declare his name to others even though I am free to do so. A good read for all, not just Christians .
