About the Author

Manuel Castells is the Wallis Annenberg Chair Professor of Communication Technology and Society at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, as well as Research Professor of the Information Society at the Open University of Catalonia in Barcelona. He is also Professor Emeritus of Sociology and of Planning at the University of California, Berkeley, and Visiting Professor at M.I.T. Peter Himanen carries out research at the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology. His studies have been published in nineteen languages.
