Product Description

Review

Students will find this volume demanding and challenging, but their perceptions of both the Industrial Revolution controversy and eighteenth- and nineteenth-century social, economic and industrial history will emerge enlightened and their interest in the period stimulated. (Business History)

This is a textbook but one that can be read with profit by both professionals and students...Hudson frequently succeeds in neatly summarizing complex discussions. She brings her surveys of the literature right up-to-date and her knowledge of recent work is impressive...a lively and well-written text. (Economic History Review)

As a general review of the theories and thoughts on the causes of the Industrial Revolution this is a good summary. Hudson tries his best to present all relevant arguments and to distill the essence of their viewpoints in a concise and readable manner . This is a good introduction to the schools of historical debate on this topic and offers plenty of scope and notes to further explore this important epoch in British history

Only read it the once so far and certainly a comprehensive review of the literature. But the lack of a Bibliography or list of sources is a drawback - having to trawl through footnotes is not ideal

Given the flaming furnaces shown on the cover shown, I was surprised to receive a plain blue, ordinary-looking book, published not by Bloomsbury but by Hodder Arnold.

If, like me, you are working from a university 'set book' list, don't worry - the ISBN is the same, it's just that the publishers have moved to digital printing and standard covers as a cost-saving measure.

Haven't read it yet, but looks promising.
