Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

It all started with Lynne Reid Banks's The Indian in the Cupboard, the enchanting, suspenseful story of toy figures brought to life through the magic of a cupboard and a special key. Three sequels followed this popular novel--The Return of the Indian, The Secret of the Indian, and The Mystery of the Cupboard--and The Key to the Indian is next in line.

At first Omri was alone with his secret of the toy figures and the surprising appearance of the 18th-century Iroquois Little Bear. One day, however, his father finds the figures in his son's room and locks them in the special cupboard: "Of course they'd come to life inside, and his dad had put a lot of twos and twos from the past together, and realized. And later he'd seen them, been introduced to them. And accepted it … It took a special kind of grownup not only to accept magic when he saw it but to promise and swear that he'd never, ever tell a living soul". What Omri and his father both now know about is the terrible plight of the Iroquois people during the 18th century--and that Omri's new friend Little Bear is in urgent need of help. Father and son attempt to travel back in time, but things go horribly wrong. They persist for the sake of Little Bear, but at great risk.

With history, magic, humour and all the surprising twists readers have come to expect from Banks, The Key to the Indian will absorb young readers through to the very last page. (Ages 9 and older). --Amazon.com --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

A fantastic, very hard to stop reading, story that will grip boys six years old and over; it has a great moral agenda, introduced in a way that will very readily engage the reader/ listener; fascinating in its detail and having lots of valid points to say about the Indian question, interfering in history, and keeping secrets

Well worth the wait 16 Sep 2000

Format:Hardcover
I have read all of The Indian in the Cupboard series and this latest book was not a disappointment. She has probably exhausted the story of the indian now but has cleverly introduced another thread to the story which makes the reader hoping for more books to come. Omri tries to make another key which has interesting results. For Omri's first unexpected trip he ends up in India meeting an ancestor from the past. Omri finally gets to meet Little Bull again and as usual has an exciting adventure in which he helps to save Little Bulls tribe from the settlers. Now that the key can take them back in time to anywhere so long as they are touching an object with a past I am sure Lynne Reid Banks has some more wonderful stories for us to read. Readers of this series will not be disappointed with this story.

very good 8 Oct 1999

II think that this book is very fast and exciting. It has true facts, which make it very believeable. I would say the best part of this book is when Omri and his brother go back to India accidentally and are in the bodies of puppets. Alll in all, I think this book rounds off the Indian in the Cupboard series nicely.
