Disney is not just responsible for some of the most popular animated children's films of all time, it was responsible for this 1963 family classic, too.
It's a wonderfully simple and sweet story; three animals have been left with one of the relatives of the family who look after them. One day, that man goes out, and thinking that they've been left for good, the three animals set out to find their way home - over a whopping 200 miles.
Amazingly this is actually based on a true story. The three animals in this film are an adorable Pitbull Terrier, Golden Retriever and Siamese cat, who have all been fantastically trained. There actually seems to be genuine affection between the three animals, in adorable moments when the three of them curl up together, asleep, or the cat, believe it or not, defends the ageing Pitbull against a rowdy bear.
There are many other perilous moments along the way, and several times the animals are either separated or hurt, but against all odds, and some severely harsh terrain, the animals manage to successfully complete their dangerous journey, making this a feelgood classic for people of all ages. They don't make them like this any more.
