Product Description

Steve Carell, Jim Carrey and Steve Buscemi star as magicians in this comedy from director Don Scardino. When ticket sales for double act Burt Wonderstone (Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Buscemi)'s Las Vegas stage show begin to dwindle due to new rival Steve Gray (Carrey), the duo pull out all the stops on a big trick. The stunt doesn't go to plan, however, and Anton moves to Cambodia, leaving Burt without a partner or a job. With help from his assistant, Jane (Olivia Wilde), and the magician who inspired him as a child, Rance Hanson (Alan Arkin), Burt tries to rediscover his passion for magic and reunite with Anton.

4.0 out of 5 stars PRETEND I 'M STILL HERE AND TELL ME ABOUT IT 22 April 2013
By The Movie Guy TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
Steve Carell stars as a sexist egotist Vegas magician not named David Copperfield. He has a fall from grace as his act grows stale. He breaks up with his partner (Steve Buscemi) who then in a hilarious scene hands out magic kits to kids in the third world. The magic world has become infatuated with shock magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey) who does incredible and grotesque street performances for the Internet called "Brain Rape". Even Burt's assistant (Olivia Wilde) leaves him. It isn't until Burt hits rock bottom that he realizes he must change and not just his act.

The film is a blend of off-colored humor and heart warming moments. It is a popcorn comedy and not the best work of any of its stars. It is worth a rental and might make for a date night film.

Parental Guide: 1 F-bomb, Alan Arkin slips in real fast in the middle. No nudity. Implied sex and sex talk. 3 1/2 stars

Burt Wonderstone (Carell) & Anton Marvelton (Buscemi) are long time friends & traditional magician double act, well established in Las Vegas, doing the same show for years. However a new street magician, Steve Gray (Carey) is giving people a new... painful.... approach to magic as he dazzles & vomit induces audiences on the streets. As their own audience get's smaller & smaller, Burt & Anton fall out, and it's time for Burt who has been at the top for so long, just going through the motions, to reevaluate his life. Can he rekindle his love for magic, reinvent his act & compete with the new guy on the block ?! Easier said then done, as old habits are hard to shake.

Overall, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is a funny film, with a heartfelt sentiment to it's story, as magic tricks play an integral part & are very entertaining in themselves. From the traditional illusions to the bizarre & gruesome. The only downsides are with the middle of the movie dragging it's legs a little, as the beginning & ending bookend it brilliantly. If the story is somewhat predictable at times.

Steve Carell is on top form as the pompous, room service addicted Wonderstone, whose monotonous & pampered persona throws up plenty of laughs. But who you can't help but sympathize with as you see some chinks of the person who he used to be slowly reappear. Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) put's in a good performance, but his character is very much second fiddle to Carell's, as he disappears through the middle of the film, with only a brief T.V appearance mid way so we don't forget who he is. Jim Carrey (

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, light-hearted fun 19 Dec 2013
Format:DVD
Basically, this movie - about two warring magicians - got a lot of flack at the box office and was almost branded `a flop.' Yes, it's no masterpiece. It's not even a comedy masterpiece. Perhaps people expected more because of the talent on display. They may have a point - the film does have a stellar cast and maybe it should have been better, or funnier than it actually is. However, just because it's no classic, doesn't mean that it's not worth watching.

It's light-hearted and easy-going. The gags - while occasionally predictable - are still amusing. You may not have many `belly laughs' but, if you're in the mood for something that isn't very serious and quite frothy, the film should maintain a little smile on your face all the way through.

You may get a little more out of it if you're a fan of any or all of the actors. Steve Carell and Jim Carrey are top-billed and for a reason - they play their (kind of stupid) parts very well.

My only gripe is that it ran for about ten minutes too long in my opinion. It probably could have been trimmed somewhere in the middle to make it just that little bit tighter. Still fun though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very silly but very funny. 30 Dec 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I am a fan of both Steve Carell and Jim Carrey but I had never heard of this until I was recommended it on Amazon and for £3 or so it was cheap so I picked it up as a stocking filler for my son. We all laughed lots watching this, particularly at Jim Carrey's character, he is crazy and it's worth watching just for him.
We thoroughly enjoyed this so it was definitely money well spent and I have been recommending this to all my friends and family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Your skin makes me cry.... 17 Nov 2013
Format:Blu-ray
Magicians Burt Wonderstone and Anton Marvelton have ruled the Las Vegas Strip for years, raking in millions with illusions as big as Burt's ego.

But lately, the duo's greatest trick is their public friendship, secretly they've grown to loathe each other.

Facing competition from a street magician, whose cult following surges with each outrageous stunt, even their show is starting to look stale.

But there's still a chance Burt and Anton can save the act, on-stage and off.

But only if Burt can get back in touch with what made him love magic in the first place....

If you are a fan of Carell or Carrey, its a no brainier that you will get something out of this. It's high concept nonsense, both actors were born to play characters so left-field and weird, and it works on so many levels.

It's not going to work for many people, as its not as straight forward as Liar Liar, or The 40 Year old virgin, it verges on Anchorman stupidity, but doesn't really go over the stupidity edge, which would have made it that little better.

Carrey plays it straight, but isn't really in it that much, so its all down to Carell, who is ably supported by a fantastic Buscemi, Arkin, and Gandolfini, to iron over the bits that 'shouldn't be this good'.

So all in all, I truly understand why there is so much hate, but I laughed, and isn't that what a comedy is supposed to do?....

3.0 out of 5 stars Saturday Night Movie
This is an ok movie considering all the famous actors in it. Good story but not overly funny, worth a watch on a Saturday evening and is great for £3, would recommend to families.

Steve Carrell is funny, but not so much in this movie. I think the role would have been better cast with Will Ferrell in the mould of Chas Michael Michaels of Blades of Glory fame. Read more
