4.0 out of 5 stars Impulse Jazz 4 Oct 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
Creed Taylor set up the Impulse label to represent the new wave of Jazz and with the signing of John Coltrane in 1964 the label was of to a flyer as a serious contender to challenge Blue Note's claim of being the finest purveyors of Jazz, With artist's like Gil Evans, Gabor Sabor, Freddie Hubbard and Oliver Nelson contributing to make this a fine Jazz CD, with CD 2 slightly more on the progressive side.

4.0 out of 5 stars Magical 15 May 2001
By A Customer
This is possibly one of the most well-rounded and well played Jazz compilations that I own. Both an experimental, and magnificently structured blend ranging from the superbly sublime "Lotus Land" and the beautiful guitar Jazz of "Summer Running", to the hectic and almost improvised sound of "I'm late, I'm late". The only critiscism of it may be that perhaps it may be trying to hard to be well rounded and in my view there are four tracks that do not deserve their place on this otherwise magical albumn. But, well, four tracks out of twenty, is that bad??
