This collection of studies was produced as a tribute to the great historian Jack Simmons whose speciality was the History of Railways. Simmons own books are at once academic in depth but readable to the layman. The writers of this collection have also striven to make their studies equally enjoyable to the reader. The essays are relatively short and range from examinations of individual railways through entire countries - Scotland and Wales. Engineering, Tourism, Architecture...all these and much more are addressed in this very fine collection.
