Review

'This impressive book introduces us to the beautiful, painful world of John of the Cross, who is still our surest guide into the mystery of God's love.' (Abbott Christopher Jamieson )

Product Description

St John of the Cross testifies to a God who longs to meet us in our deepest need. Whilst rejection and imprisonment played their part in the life of this sixteenth-century Spanish friar, John's poetry and prose reveal the beauty and power of a wondrous God. It gives us courage to believe in the possibility of change in our own lives, however unlikely or impossible this may seem.
Father Iain Matthew uses this classic inspirational Christian writing as his starting point, and offers five interpretations which make its richness relevant to the modern reader.

In my opinion, no other mystic offers instruction on the spiritual path in such a systematic and helpful way as St. John of the Cross. This book is unique too, because (as far as I know) there is no other non-academic work which explores John's ideas so thoroughly and carefully.

It's a book to be read slowly, though, as John talks of a world and an experience which is utterly beyond and above most of our imaginations... yet one, he assures us, that is open and available for us all.

I can't recommend this book enough. It gave me hope, courage and inspiration - I hope it has a similar effect on you.

This book takes John of the Cross off the shelf & out of the incomprehensible realm of 'mystic'. Matthew succeeds in making John's teaching relevant without compromising John's message. No small task but one for which modern readers should be grateful. I am.

A Must. Invaluable.... 11 July 2010
Format:Paperback
This is a MUST, if you are interested in close union with God and Prayer. It is simple to read and the examples are every day ones that make much sense and make it easier to understand.

I have recommended it to numerous people and probably will also buy copies to hand to some contacts of mine. It has made a big difference to my prayer life. I hope it sill do the same for you.
