Product Description

The year's most explosive crime thriller: Former US government assassin and Hong Kong Police enforcer Mike Delaney joins an esoteric monastic brotherhood to discover his spiritual self until he falls in love and marries.

Then his journalist wife is ritually murdered by a contract serial killer known as 'The Priest' – because she was close to uncovering a global plot known as 'The Renaissance Project'. 'The Priest' is part of the conspiracy, a transvestite who abducts, violates and murders scores of young women. He leaves no trace, no DNA not even a drop of sweat.

Delaney will never stop until he tracks down 'The Priest' and infiltrates the labyrinthine 'Renaissance Project' – the world's most exclusive 'club' whose members are the global super rich and powerful who seek immortality at any price and at all costs.

Delaney's former partner, wheelchair-bound Bob Messenger, has created confess-confess.com – a global crime busting website where ordinary people fight back against scams, crime and injustice, each with their own code name. Delaney is known as 'The Monk'.

Delaney has sworn never to kill again but to seek peace and spiritual fulfilment. But fate and the loss of the woman he loved drive him to use his consummate investigative and physical skills to track down her killer and the organisation that ordered her execution. When it comes to it and he finally confronts 'The Priest', will he keep his vow or execute terminal revenge?

I read a lot of good thrillers of every sub-genre but this one is an absolute knockout. From the blurb alone, you can see this is a great action-packed, knock'em dead movie-style story line. Terrific visual opening. As promised in the blurb, this is an action-packed, masculine tale of intrigue and conspiracy with, what must be, one of the most original action heroes around. The author has created a terrific protagonist in Mike Delaney, the kickass assassin turned monk with a conflicted, spiritual nature yet who responds to the feminine in his psyche. And the bad guy, Lucius Gynt, is the stuff of nightmares. Hannibal Lecter eat your heart out (or should that be liver?). This rivals anything written by Lee Child. And the idea of a website for ordinary people to get back at crime, scams and serious injustice is very, very clever. The twist is the notion of a global conspiracy by the super rich and powerful to replicate themselves and is a killer. And it is entirely plausible if you check out the science. More Mike Delaney thrillers please.

From the outset, I want to say that this was great - fast paced, punchy, exactly what is says on the tin. which set the scene beautifully for the following action. As for Delaney, what's not to love? He's Irish-American, big, fast, fit, smart, honourable, good in bed, a trained killer, and he loved his wife. There is detail, great movement and tone, and the atmosphere was perfect. I think the author has created a really strong hook to hang all this on with Delaney. He is called The Monk on a crime busting website created by his buddy called confess-[...]. This is a very clever idea because it means a never ending supply of plots.

This is a review of [ASIN:B00624WKPQ The Immortality Plot by David Callinan]

This is a fast-paced book, with many twists and turns, and is recorded from the viewpoints of a number of characters.

The main story revolves around the efforts of Mike Delaney, a former soldierG-Force special agent and Policeman, to find the killer of his wife, who was an investigative reporter. Delaney had become disillusioned with his life after a failed Police mission in Hong Kong, and goes to a retreat where he becomes a Master of the martial art of Tai Chi, before leaving this life and falling in love.

This book introduces us to the world of The Priest, who Delaney believes is not only a serial killer but also the person who killed his wife, and of The Monk, who is intent on tracking him down.

Delaney also believes that the reason his wife was murdered in a most horrific fashion was because she became aware of the existence of a secret organisation who were offering the very rich the chance of 'immortality'.

In some ways this is a good thriller, but personally, I found that some of the plot devices used to move the story along were a little contrived.

I had some trouble suspending my disbelief enough to truly see the offer being made to those rich enough to buy 'immortality' as very likely but this aside, it was an acceptable read. I am looking forward to reading other books by this author.
