Book Description

2 Oct 1997
Since his release from prison in 1990, Nelson Mandela has emerged as the world's most significant moral leader since Gandhi. As president of the African National Congress and spiritual figurehead of the anti-apartheid movement, he was instrumental in moving South Africa towards black-majority rule. He is revered throughout the world as a vital force for human rights and racial equality. Mandela's riveting memoirs, A LONG WALK TO FREEDOM , were first published in 1994 to universal acclaim. This exciting illustrated edition now portrays his life in words and pictures. Vivid descriptions of his childhood environment, early Johannesburg, life in the townships, Robben Island and the events, protests, historic trials and acts of vengeance that forged his destiny are now accompanied by haunting and dramatic photographs that illuminate his story in an unforgettable way.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice but might not be what you expect! 22 May 2003
This rather than a review is just a warning. When I bought this book I thought It was a full version of the Long Walk to Freedom with the added bonus of being illustrated. It is, however, a very abridged version. Although it does have very interesting photos for those that want a the full story you should buy the un-illustrated version which does have a few photos here and there.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the price $152.00. Abridged text and poor photographs...not as good as a similar text for 40.00$ 17 Feb 2014

Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
The Book was a piece of junk relative to the price of 152.00$. The book looked had cheap photography compared to a 40$ book on the same topic, Nelson Mandela, with excellent full text and photographs. The Illustrated Long Walk to Freedom was not accepatable for that price and not as expected....the book is abridged and photographs/printing are inferior. This is my worst experience so far with a book through amazon. still need to purchase an unabridged Long Walk to Freedom.
