More About the Author

Douglas Adams created all the various and contradictory manifestations of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: radio, novels, TV, computer game, stage adaptations, comic book and bath towel. He lectured and broadcast around the world and was a patron of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and Save the Rhino International. Douglas Adams was born in Cambridge, UK and lived with his wife and daughter in Islington, London, before moving to Santa Barbara, California, where he died suddenly in 2001. After Douglas died the movie of Hitchhiker moved out of development hell into the clear uplands of production, using much of Douglas' original script and ideas. Douglas shares the writing credit for the movie with Karey Kirkpatrick.

Format: Hardcover
This is an amazing book. That sounds inadequate, but this edition of the late Douglas Adams' brilliant guide excels itself with wacky full-page colour photos and even a guest appearance from the man himself. The book is presented in an imaginative way, from the large fold-out centre pages depicting the Heart of Gold's interior, to the inside cover images of Marvin the Paranoid Android.
This book's real cover is completely different to the dust cover - and this is where the final touch is added to the masterpiece - the front and back *really* do have DON'T PANIC emblazoned upon them in large, friendly letters.

This has been one of my favorite novels for a while, this illustrated version is a lovely book although a little bigger then I was expecting. I think the pictures definitely make it more appealing to younger children.

I was lucky enough to get pick up my illustrated copy of Douglas Adams ground breaker when he still alive and signing them. That's not part of the review just me showing off. That's right mine is signed and yours insn't and in all probability never will be.

You've probably already read the HHGTTG or one of the huge numbers of books that it influenced so and therefore don't need to hear my half baked thoughts on how it created a new genre or made me want to take towel everywhere with me. Instead I'll tell you that this large, friendly edtion comes full of full colour photos of our heroes toiling through the wastes of space and has a pleasing dustcover.

Everyone looks different from my imagination but my 3 year old loves it - best bed time book ever. She is a personality proto-type too.

Format: Hardcover
This is a wonderfully presented book, lovingly created, but BE WARNED - it is only a reprint of the first novel with lavish photo illustrations. It uses NONE of the original radio or TV cast, although there is an appearance by Adams himself. Don't expect any new material, simply re-interpretations of the images you already had in your head. Its worth will obviously increase in time and it's a must for collectors, but I found it a little disappointing.

Format: Hardcover
This is a book for those who are limited in the ways of putting pictures to the the text. A lot of very good and amusing photos accompany the well-known text of the first part of the trilogy. Some of them will for obvious reasons surprise the reader, but it is a book that will take a prominent place in the home of any fan of DNA and it will be brought out and reread noumerous times (Or just 'rewatched', the pictures talk for themselves). Just one thing is missing: Where are the four other parts of the trilogy (Oh, that's ehh.... four other things)
