The Illustrated Book of Situational Sex, published by the redoubtable EPS, is one of their series of diminutive illustrated volumes dealing with particular aspects of the wide range of erotic activities to which the flesh is heir. Each of the series brings a light-hearted approach to its subject, stressing the potential of particular activities in a short essay, and complemented charmingly by apposite artwork, for which short captions are provided to stress the humour and joy of its aspect of the human condition. None of them aims for weighty scholarship, but each succeeds in a delicate humour, of borderline titillation, and this particular example is exemplary in its entertainment, dealing with the delights of couplings elsewhere than the conventional bed. A charming book, suitable as a token of erotic regard between light-hearted couples, and not without its minor insights.
