Product Description

"The Iceman chilleth! Not for the faint of heart, but a rousing, riveting read. I read it in one (scary) gulp."

-Jack Olson, author of I: The Creation of a Serial Killer

At home Richard Kuklinski was a dedicated suburban family man. On the street he was the Iceman, a professional hit man and lethal scam artist, a man so heartless he kept one of his victims frozen for over two years to disguise the time of death. His personal body count was over 100, but the police didn't have a clue. The Iceman exposes Kuklinski's murderous double life.

The book, at times, read like one of Bruno's novels. Other times, like true crime from St. Martin's press. Well, now that we're all confused, let me say this: it's not all bad. The Iceman (Richard Kuklinski) is a very interesting killer. I wish the book focused more on him than one of the undercover agents who sought to bring him down because the cops are always the stereotypicals who eat poorly and feel guilty about not spending enough time with their family. Big yawn! I also found some of Kuklinski's murder claims dubious. Specifically the Roy DeMeo hit. 'Nuff said, capice?

Not a great read.. 11 Nov 2011

It's ok .... and you can stick with it ( sort of ). But - it's not a 'great' read. For the money - I think you can do far better. About halfway through - you start looking for the exit - and checking on how much more of this stuff you have to read - before you finish.

I like to watch the videos of Richard Kuklinski, somehow his voice soothes me, so when I heard there was a book, I wanted to read it.

Richard was born in to a cruel part of the world, to cruel parents who beat his brother so badly that they killed him; threw him down the stairs and claimed the boy fell.
After many years of taking beatings, Richard decided to fight back and discovered that he had a talent for torture and punishment, and suffered no emotional after effects.

Only two things annoy me about this book;
1. I don't know if Richard is always telling the truth, he mentions motion sensors and video equipment in an era where I don't know of such things existing.
2. The author is too keen to play Richard as, "the bad guy" and the (quite often bent) Police as, "the good guys".
(indeed Richard killed a bent copper, which ultimately brought him to his own end, read the book).

This constant arse kissing to the Polis makes me sick when you consider the author, who's name I refuse to memorise, is making a lot of money by writing about the work of Kuklinski, if not for Kuklinski, the author wouldn't have a book to write, so he should be grateful.

Well, he'd have to be alive to be grateful, terrible-shame-that.

So, dubious murder claims and one sided arse kissing to one side, I like the book, and I never get bored of reading it.

Balls ripped off, stomach cut open and thrown to the sharks?

Cool!

:D
