Okay, so if you liked Fargo, you may as well stop reading this review, and go and order the book now. This is a stunning Debut, and promises great things for mr Phillips. The book is short, sharp, and blackly funny at the same time. I found myself giggling with evil delight for ages afterwards. I managed to finish the book in a little under two days, and felt like I had been transported into a mixture of American Gothic, Twin Peaks, and, yes, Fargo. Comparisons are inevitable, but unnecesary. This is a book that stands in its own right as a mixture of genius and depravity. All we have to do now is wait for the film to come out...

A journey around town via strip clubs, topless bars, and masseuse parlors is what this short novel offers. Charlie is a mob lawyer who is about to leave town, granting last minute favors, and just wasting time until he meets with Vic. Vic and Charlie have ripped off their boss and plan to split town with the money. This has a simple plot. As the reader, you end up wanting him to get away, even though he’s a immoral, drunken swindler.

this book is more about what you don't know. you get no intro for the characters, they are just there. you get no history for the crimes, they are just facts. it's quick, it's brutal and it's fun. not knowing anything about anyone can be a little frustrating but then it makes things all the harder to guess
it'll take you no time to read so i would seriously invest the cash. read it on a train journey from london to bristol and back, it'll kill the time nicely
