Product Description

It’s August and Gibraltar Hall hosts reality TV show I-Spy with Brenda as one of the contestants. Her Sanford 3rd Age Club friends arrive to welcome her back after a week’s stay in the house.

Inside, feelings run strong between the Housies. Arguments become heated. Then one of them is found dead.

With cameras covering most of the house, no one could have gone near the victim without being seen. No one from the outside could have entered the house without being seen. It must be suicide.

But Joe knows it was murder and he must persuade the police of that. It’s a complex and maddening puzzle for the Sanford 3rd Age Club.

Can they solve the impossible murder?

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good read 16 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The I-Spy Murders is the second Sanford Third Age Club mystery I've reviewed and this one is a great read - not only a whodunnit, but a howdunnit, too! Self-styled brilliant amateur detective Joe Murray proves his mettle in this most intriguing of cases. A murder is committed in a closed house with television cameras watching the inhabitants every move.

Based on the Big Brother set up, the I-Spy television series welcomes one of Joe's closest friends, Brenda Jump, as a contestant, which is why Joe, who would normally rather watch paint dry, ends up glued to the set. Because of this, when one of the contestants is found dead and declared a suicide, Joe is the only person convinced a murder has taken place - and in usual bullish Joe fashion, he's determined to prove it. In no time at all Joe is once again centre stage in an investigation where the finger of suspicion points at all the other contestants, including his friend Brenda.

I've no intention of giving away the plot; not least because it's so cleverly done it would be a crime in itself to post any spoilers.

One thing I will say, Joe is growing as a character. He is more human and so more credible. I would certainly recommend this novel as an entertaining read and am looking forward to the next in the series. I hope David Robinson is busy writing because his fan club is growing.

5.0 out of 5 stars The I-Spy Murders 29 July 2012

Joe Murray is about to face his most baffling case to date when one of the I-Spy contestants turns up dead in the latest Sanford Third Age Club mystery. While the police suspect suicide, Joe isn't quite so sure, and after forcing his way onto the investigation it soon becomes clear that murder has been committed.

The only question for Joe is, How?

Set in a big brother style house, with cameras watching the contestants every move, it becomes apparent that the killer is very clever indeed. After all, how was he/she able to move from room to room without being caught on film in the act?

The story moves at a steady pace as Joe and his trusty companions, Brenda Jump and Sheila Riley, delve deeper into what turns out to be a quite fascinating mystery.

Even long term STAC rival Les Tanner is dragged on board to help out after Joe and Sheila remind him that Joe once got his girlfriend off a murder charge in a lovely reference back to an earlier story.

Joe is a character that is growing with every tale, and when Brenda gives him a present for all his help we even catch a glimpse to a softer, more humble side of Joe that had me wondering if he really is the grumpy old sod he professes to be, or if it's all just for show.

The I-Spy Murder is a thoroughly entertaining read.

Probably the worst of the series. Joe was extremely irritating and would never have been tolerated by the police in real life.
