She hasn't been Shadoe Wallace for over twenty years. She goes by Jillian Morgan now, and she is trying to forget that part of her life. Only the nightmares won't let her....nor will the Hunters....
About to be released from prison after serving a five-year term for manslaughter, Jillian is not sure what to do with herself. Killing rapist Jimmy Duncan had been an act of survival, but now she had to figure out who she was and start her life all over. Ben Cross knows Jillian as Shadoe, knows she belongs to his pack, and knows who and what she really is. But from that first day, when he contacted her in jail, she's refused to see him. Over the years, he never gave up trying to reach her, and now that she's out of prison, he's not giving her a choice.
Ben knows that Shadoe is powerful, but it isn't until he meets her face to face that he is confronted with just how powerful she is. And just how attracted he is to her. He realizes that there is much she needs to learn, and that it's up to him to teach her. Him and another one, someone with a sadness and a tortured soul that rivals Shadoe. Someone determined to punish herself for her past deeds. The self-exiled witch Leandra....
Jillian is finding it harder and harder to ignore her true calling, especially when an old evil is bent on revenge. But she is determined never to go through that horror again. Her destiny is calling to her strongly, and now the secrets hidden deep inside herself are making themselves known, as is her desire for the man determined to bring her back to her power. Their attraction is fierce, elemental, and consuming, and it releases in her a sense of freedom. Shadoe begins to learn more about her power, and to let go of the fear. This knowledge takes her on a journey of self-discovery, and to a place she can call home.
Hunters are a lusty bunch, sensual and sexual. It is an innate part of their beings, and is as natural as breathing. Their powers are strong, and their desires moreso. Their encounters are very physical, and often lead to a lifetime commitment. Now Ben has found his mate, and Shadoe has found hers. But they must face the evil that threatens to devastate their world before they can truly be together. Only this evil isn't about to let any of them go unscathed. Before the fighting is over, someone's existence will change, forever.
Shiloh Walker has given us another engrossing Hunter tale filled with all the exciting elements of the previous stories. Be forewarned, there is a lot of violence and sexuality to be found in these stories, some of it may be a bit overwhelming to readers. This story is an erotic telling of the Hunters and their powerful need for each other. Some of the sex scenes are extremely graphic and sometimes include multiple partners. If those things don't bother you, then you will surely enjoy reading about Ben and Shadoe, who have found a love with each other that makes them stronger. Shiloh writes about strong women who face horrible circumstances but never cower or allow themselves to become dependent on any man, including their mates, men who are just as strong but who are able to be vulnerable, not weak, for their women. I look forward to reading the next Hunter story about Rafe and Sheila.
