Hawk McMillan is deep undercover, trying to locate a missing explosive weapon in a the hands of a dungheap of a man, an illegal weapons, drugs, and human trafficker. I felt Hawk's anger through the whole story, as he became caught between a rock and a hard place, trying to balance his idea of what black and white is, and still get his mission done.
Amber Hutchens, on the other hand, understands that there are no black and white in her world, only gray, and she's very adapt in this environment--dealing with the trafficker for information on one hand, and robbing him blind by saving the girls he trafficks on the other. The author really did a good job balancing this character's toughness and femininity.
The sexual chemistry between these two protagonists is just as dangerous as the explosive device for which Hawk's looking. I really enjoyed how their relationship as they work together--this lady's something else! As they get closer to the missing weapon, the final twist in the story really caught me by surprise. All in all, a wonderful intrigue adventure. And Hawk McMillan is almost as yummy as Ricardo Harden from Gennita Low's Facing Fear.
