Night Owl Reviews
From award-winning author Brenda Hill, a story of undying love - with a twist.
*
He waits . . .
When her husband inherits his abandoned childhood home on a north woods lake, Lindsay Peterson is delighted.
Until . . .
Strange things happen when she sees the decaying house for the first time: she knows how the rooms are arranged, knows of a gazebo that hasn't existed for fifty years.
After they move in, dreams of a lover from another time haunt her sleep, then intrudes on her days with déjà vu until the present blurs with the past. A stirring of air caresses her with whispered touch.
Then the touches become real.

Advisory: Due to mature content, this book is recommended for 17+ age readers.

More About the Author

I'm Brenda Hill, a California-based author, editor, and writing coach.

I love things that go bump in the night whether they're serial killers or other strange creatures. I've written about those pesky people who intrude on our lives with deadly force - Ten Times Guilty, With Full Malice, Beyond the Quiet. I'm still writing about those pesky people/creatures who intrude on our lives, but this time they're in a slightly different form.

The House on Serpent Lake is a ghost/love story - with a slight twist.

Raised in Louisiana, I live in the Inland Empire of Southern CA, but long for cool ocean breezes, the forests and clean air of the northern areas of the States, but can do without mosquitoes and horseflies. The bonus? My son and his family. So here I stay.

A gripping book _ I couldn't put it down. Read the whole thing in one big gulp. The main character's growth was so believable and her anguish had me in tears. I wanted more.

I read this book in an afternoon stuck in bed with flu from the first page I was captivated and couldn't put it down. The characters were believable and I very quickly found myself really caring what happened next, I am a paranormal romance junkie but usually find they are geared more towards the teen market so really enjoyed a more grown up version. I would certainly read further books by the author

This book is about as far from horror as possible. Its a love story, a very believable story of a husband and wife who inherit an old house by a lake. The characters are totally believable and the atmosphere the author pours into the book are there to feel and see.

For a ghost story with a difference, this is a 'must read'!

5.0 out of 5 stars The House on Serpent Lake - paranormal thiller! 10 July 2013
By Kelly Foreman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I just got done reading the entire "The House on Serpent Lake" book and I must say: When does the movie come out? You'll find me first in line!

This is my first Brenda Hill novel and she gives readers just enough clues that keep us one step ahead of our heroine, Lindsay - or does she? Written with highly suspenseful tidbits, this page-turner kept me assessing what might happen next. Will Lindsay make the connection she so desperately aches for with her husband, or succumb to the passionate desires of the male spirit that might be stalking her - or is she just going crazy?

I have not read a book in a long time and I must say I that this kept me intrigued in a fashion similar to my favorite author, Stephen King.

Well done, Brenda Hill!

Note to readers: there are some rated R sections, but tastefully presented.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Captivating Read 16 July 2013

This novel is a totally different ghost story that captivated me and kept me up well beyond my normal bedtime. Brenda Hill once again proves her mastery of suspense and drama and her ability to keep you reading until you have consumed the entire book. My first thought on finishing this one was, "When will the sequel be published?"

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing venture into the paranormal world 12 July 2013
By Elizabeth Grandy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Brenda Hill's novel, The House on Serpent Lake, explores the paranormal world with intriguing twists and turns. Eric and Lindsay Peterson move to the town of Crosby, MN, for the summer, unaware of the gossip regarding the house Eric inherited. Consequently, he rationalizes the strange events that begin to occur. Lindsay, however, is drawn into a relationship that will forever change her life. Ghostly lovers tend to do that.

Supernatural stories require readers to suspend disbelief, and Hill accomplishes that difficult feat. She seductively pulls the reader into this haunting story as only a skilled writer can do. The House on Serpent Lake has mystery, romance, and a paranormal theme. What more can a reader ask for?

A gripping book - I couldn't put it down. Read the whole thing in one big gulp. The main character's growth was so believable and her anguish had me in tears. I wanted more. There were surprises, even when I thought I'd figured it all out.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Page Turner to be Consumed 4 Oct 2013
By Kathryn A. Thomas - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Ususally I stay away from scary books at bedtime, but this novel intrigued me right from the first page. Curiosity got the best of me, and I had to find out where the twists and turns were going to end. The plot was original, and the characters were more than true to themselves making for excellent narration. I was satisfied that I had spent my time well, and I applaud Brenda Hill for her skills.
