5.0 out of 5 stars History of Rock 401: NY City and the CBGB Scene 2 Dec 2013
By McQ - Published on Amazon.com
Amazingly detailed and insightful documentary of the 70s NY CBGB counterculture music scene from its inception through to its broader influence on contemporary culture. The interviews and footage are priceless relics of the era. For anyone wanting to relive or better understand the history, this documentary is a must-see.

3.0 out of 5 stars incorrect running time 11 Feb 2011

This is an interesting documentary, but the listed running time (120 minutes on amazon) is because it repeats itself. So the running time is one half of what's stated. I wasn't too happy with this one.
4.0 out of 5 stars "The House of the Rising Punk" feat. some great footage (Patti Smith, Debbie Harry, Jim Jarmuch, etc.) 3 Jun 2014
By WriteReviseEdit - Published on Amazon.com
While the version of this film I watched on Amazon Prime Instant Video confused me (it appeared to be >2 hrs. long, but after watching it once and the hour mark or so being hit I realized it was just repeating itself - maybe w/o German subtitles? Don't know), overall I really liked this film. "The House of the Rising Punk" features great interviews with both the guys and dolls who were a part of the NYC punk scene, CBGB, etc. There's lots of great performance footage, Jim Jarmuch film excerpts of Blondie's Debbie Harry singing in German and the list of unusual tidbits goes on. I'd watch it again. Hell, I'd even buy it!!!
4.0 out of 5 stars Very good 12 April 2014

Very interesting history of the start if punk rock. Many interviews with those who were there and you get to feel what it was like.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great documtary 11 Oct 2013
By Ross - Published on Amazon.com
It is a good intro to the beginning of punk. It parallels with the book "Please Kill Me" which expands on this documentary. I highly suggest reading that book as well. Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk
