Product Description

I hardly know where to start. How do you put such terror into words when the words I choose need to be real, not just a fabrication of a well educated imagination. I know that you may have your doubts and conclude with your own presumptions; and with no hard-evidence to offer, I am asking for you to explore and consider your deepest beliefs. I am unable to refer to this as a story, it goes much deeper than that of a progressive tale with happy ever afters.

What you are about to read is real; the feelings and emotions described have actually been lived. The fear felt. This is a narrative of the events which took place across almost a century, 1903 to 1983, in a house which stood closely among others and for many years shared the usual comforts of home. This house was once safe, it was a comfortable place to spend time but over time, it evolved into a dark emptiness which the house of Poultney Roads’ residents would never forget. It was hidden away from what it once was and over time had emerged as a building of strong, solid bricks which concealed more secrets than some members of my family wish to remember.

I am not writing this in an attempt to scare you but yet to inform you of what exists, whether you choose to believe it or not. This is not a fictional novel, created to shock and leave you in suspense but is instead a retelling of what happened to several generations of a family who had lived their lives as any other but who were, quite literally, introduced to another world.

I guess you could consider this a warning, that perhaps you should believe your instincts instead of living your life creating explanations and judgements. Seeing is believing some might say but learning about the house on Poultney Road could prepare you for something you may one day come face to face with and perhaps prevent you from the pain that that this house bought to so many.

Safe in your own home; sit back in a comfortable chair and turn on the side light. The beam will comfort you through this roller-coaster of memories which have left their mark on everyone who entered The House on Poultney Road.

'This book awakens those lost or hidden fears that its predecessors seemed to smother.' Horror Honey (

'I felt a fear I've never felt before from a book, I had shivers and my hairs standing up on my arms.' Amazon review.

'What a Fantastic novel, Stephanie Boddy pulled me in by the end of the first chapter, I had read it by the end of the day.' Beverley Aspinall, Horror Inside the Box

More About the Author

Growing up I wasn't like a usual little girl, I was a tomboy who looked forward to nothing more than getting home from school and picking up my favourite Stephen King novel, which later developed into a James Herbert admiration.

At just ten years old, I remember writing a letter to Stephen King, shortly after I finished reading his book, Pet Cemetary and told him that I loved his stories and his writing so much, that one day I too would be a writer for the horror genre. (I'd like to add, I never did get a reply from Stephen.)

At school, I always excelled in English Language and gained an A at GCSE level, after which I went on to get an English A Level (as well as Business Studies , Marketing and Art) and decided to continue my studies to Portsmouth University, where I got myself a BA Hons degree in Media Studies. It was when I was at University that my lecturer (hi Laurie) said to me 'Steph, you'd make a really great Copywriter'. With no idea what one was, I did a bit of research and with a real passion for writing, decided to try my hardest to get into copywriting as a profession. Over the past nine years I have been employed as and worked freelance as a Copywriter and Proofreader.

It was three years ago whilst copy-editing someone else's manuscript, that I realised I didn't want to be reading someone else's writing anymore, I wanted to be writing my own. I got one chapter into my manuscript, got engaged and the wedding took over. I got married in Decemeber 2012 and so January 2013 was when I started taking my writing seriously and picked up from where I left off.

I didn't have to think hard about what genre I would write, horror has always been 'my thing' and growing up with a family who have more experiences than a common horror novel collection could expose; I decided to write from the heart and dedicate my first novel to the Grandad I never met but heard so much about, Grandad Dick, who just so happened to be a seance host. And so was born my first manuscript, The House on Poultney Road.

After the success of my debut novel, The House on Poultney Road, there has been quite a demand for a sequel which I succumbed to and It Found Me has a publication date of October 01st 2014. I have already started writing my third novel, which unlike the former two, will be 100% fiction but of course, still within the paranormal / horror genre.

As well as writing, I have started to attend ghost hunts around the country and have connected with a few of the best paranormal teams to investigate with. They are great fun and really open your eyes to what (or who) else is out there. I now share my experiences with you via reviews on my website

I love my gorgeous husband, Elliott; Mum, Yvonne (who is also my partner-in-horror), family, baby cat Gizmo, horror movies, ghost trails, shopping, shoes, etc etc

4.0 out of 5 stars True or not? 23 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I won this book from a competition on the author's facebook page. This is an honest review.
I was a little surprised when I got this book as I wasnt sure what to expect and when I realised it was based on a true account of the going on at The house I couldn't wait to start it. This book is about the spooky goings on in the aforsaid house and I found myself quite involved, I couldnt wait to see what would happen next.It started with a visit to the house that has now had changes inside and brightened up although it doesn't seem to have made the house any more welcoming. The rest of the book is about stephanies family and their involvment in the spooky and etheral goings on including the man in black who seems to be a large character. I have no idea why they continued to attempt contact with the 'beings' in the house as I am sure I would have run a mile. It was a surprising insight into what happened and how it was dealt with, Is it true? I don't know but there are some things you just cannot dismiss. Read it yourself and see if you believe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scary stuff ! Thoroughly recommend it 27 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I consider myself a veteran of horror and paranormal books and interests ; my wide reading of this genre is vast, and a lot of the time the stories are the same, bordering on nonsense and the usual predictable content.; but I thought this was a little gem; the characters were likeable and real. I like the way the author wrote it by spanning across the decades and I always know I'm reading a good book when I imagine it making a good film ! yes, it was far fetched at times but you can forgive the author for that.
Scary , especially Ellen's photograph !
loved everything about it and thoroughly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's OVER?! 5 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Really enjoyed this long awaited tale, very well written with great voicing from the characters and a real sense of the timelines with realistic spookiness - no jazzing it up a notch for Hollywood or splashing the unnecessary gore about. My only complaint upon finishing just now is - NO! It CAN'T be done! I have so many questions I need answered, so many things I still want to read about, darn it!
Suffice to say, don't regret buying this!
Really hoping there will be another book, and will definatly buy if there ever is!

1.0 out of 5 stars This looks like a print on demand product 20 Aug 2014
By Anthony
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This appeared to be a professionally produced book on Amazon's blurb, but thumbnails can be misleading! This looks like a print on demand product, with the pages output from MS Word in one of its standard fonts. Clearly not a professionally produced work. The writing itself was tiresome and predictable. I couldn't get past the first few pages won't out regretting I'd wasted over £5 on a piece of amateurish vanity work.

5.0 out of 5 stars I want to read this again and again! 23 Jun 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've never reviewed a book before but felt I had to with this. I love reading ghost stories but a lot of them are dull and predictable. I heard good things about this book from friends, joined Stephanie's facebook fan page and wanted to read it immediately. I was hooked from the start, and read it over the course of this weekend. What a lovely family they are and what awful things they had to go through, all the time trying to keep their children safe and secure. I felt every little bit of emotion. The descriptive text really pulled you in, you could imagine yourself being in that awful house and wondering what you would do in their situation. No other book is going to compare now, this is as good as it gets. Please make time to read The House on Poultney Road, you will not be disappointed!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a great read 14 Aug 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had thought this book would be a good read but it was quite weak and I kept reading hoping there would be more to it than there was. I am a believer in the supernatural but don't believe there was enough of a true story to base this ghost story on. It is quite a soft ghost story and I really don't think id recommend it

1.0 out of 5 stars Sadly disappointing 8 Dec 2014
By Gareth
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I wanted to like this story. It began promisingly, there were enjoyable elements - like discovering the history of the family who lived at the house through the decades - and at times it was something of a page turner. But it was also deeply flawed, with too many inconsistencies, writing that was often careless and clumsy, and period details that just weren't convincing.

This wouldn't matter so much if it all made sense at the end, if the events described came together, and if there was some kind of meaning or explanation to it all. But there wasn't, and it left me feeling really quite disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Total waste of money 31 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Decided to download this book after the reviews, but wish I hadn't bothered! Got bored after the first few chapters as I could not work out how it was based on a "true" story. Can't understand how readers could say it was scary? Would not recommend this book!
