USA wins on this film 3 April 2006
By Anthony
Format:DVD
House on the edge of the park is a very shocking and disturbing film including rapes, gross language and a lot of pissing round. Vipco UK release is cut by 11minutes 42seconds by the BBFC which removed or heavily edited all the assaults by David Hess on the women. It's better buying the US DVD which is uncut and understand how sick these guys are.
Great film but vipco has a problem of releasing a lot of cut films which is very disappointing.

A lush & classy erotic thriller. This film is gorgeous: stunningly beautiful & elegant women, slow moving, sweeping camera work, that evokes a sense of calm & beauty which stands as a philosophically interesting contrast to the sometimes brutal going-ons in the film.
The script offers some really clever twists to the whole captives-captors scenario, and blurs the lines of the roles of these.
The score is fantastic, mostly tranquil and lyrical, but occasionally nervous & frenetic, yet without eclipsing the film's constant lyrical undertones.
The film apparently caused some controversy for showing the rape victims as enjoying the rapes. I think that is precisely one of the unique things about the film; it adds another psychological layer to the film, bringing in some Sadean notions and making them comprehensible by transposing them into a modern, cinematic context. The joy of domination, is a recurrent theme in the film; in a sexual way as well as in terms of captivation.
A smooth, sensual and edgy exploitation thriller, with some unexpected psychological and philosophical elements.
As always with a Ruggero Deodato the acting is INCREDIBLE & feels very realistic.
THIS IS THE UNCUT SHRIEK SHOW EDITION, A GREAT EDITION FROM ONE OF THE BEST EXPLOITATION LABELS EVER! DO NOT BUY THE UK VERSION, IT HAS BEEN BUTCHERED BY THE BBFC.
It remains a great mystery to me why on earth BBFC cut this film by an atrocious 14 minutes. It contains less than a few minutes of violence in total, and that violence is very mild; I've seen worse violence in 12 rated movies.

Nice N Sleazy 17 Sep 2007
Format:DVD
The story..Crooked garage workers Alex (David Hess) and Ricky (Giovanni Lambardo Radice) help fix the car of a rich couple and invite themselves along to their party. It becomes clear that the rich party hosts are just bored and looking for laughs at the expense of the two underclass guests. When the tension is finally broken Alex takes them all hostage and begins to have his own idea of fun with them.
Ruggero deodato's follow up to the classic "Cannibal Holocaust" is a nasty little horror/thriller. It is, however, a good well shot film and David Hess as Alex seems to revel in playing the bad guy ( think Krug from "Last house on the left") Most of the film is set in the house so you have a real claustrophobic feel to proceedings as events spiral out of control. Make no mistake though "House at the edge of the park" is an incredibly sleazy film and director Ruggero Deodato shows us once again how he can make genuinely full on films like few others in the genre. The film contains little actual gore but you get beatings aplenty and totally cruel moments of humiliation, torture and rape. Special mention has to be made to Riz Ortolani's sleazy score and cheesy disco music that'll have you humming well after the films ended. I also have to say that do not under any circumstances buy the U.K release by Vipco as it's cut by over 11 minutes!
I recommend this to all fans of the genre.

Save your money
To call this horror would be a joke. It's trash. One of the worst, most insipid movies ever. It isn't sick or disturbing, as another reviewer has commented. Read more
