Shock gore master Lucio Fulci s The House by the Cemetery is one of the finest typically single-minded exercises in zombie terror. Its just a shame no-one told the Boyle family who move into a gothic style house (by a cemetery) with a bloody past and a guts spraying future, what is yet to come! You d think they d twig given the basement door is nailed shut that they should get the hell out. Instead they stay long enough to discover their zombified non rent-paying lodger, the cellar-dwelling, flesh-hungry Dr Freudstein and boy is he p*ssed!

House by the Cemetery arrives in the UK uncut, its about time! The film concerns a house that a young couple and their kid move into not knowing what danger they are in, someone is killing people and no-one in the house is safe, the sinister Dr Freudstein is supposedly behind it all but as the husband looks deeper into the mystery things take an unusual twist, if you're a Fulci fan this disc is a must have, if you don't like Italian horror or dubbed movies give it a miss. The film has a great transfer and some interesting special features making it a good version to get. All in all a great modern gothic horror with some decent gore, its a great addition to the cult horror fans collection, if you liked this you should look into some of Fulci's similar films such as The Beyond [DVD] [1981] [US Import] or City of the Living Dead [DVD] [1980] or Zombie 2 [DVD] [1979] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] which are all brilliant in my opinion.

Following on from Lucio Fulci's zombie masterpiece, ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS (one of my all time fav undead films), he directed a trilogy of un-related zombie films; THE BEYOND, CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD and finally HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY. Out of the three, this is easily the weakest, but that doesn't mean it's a bad film - far from it! Unlike the other films, HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY is much tighter and focuses on a smaller amount of characters and only one zombie, which makes a very unique and interesting film that's a lot of fun and is filled with great gore! There's plenty of set pieces for the gorehounds out there, many of which have very little to do with the plot, but that's to be expected from a Fulci film.
A brilliant release of a great zombie and different zombie film. It's almost like THE AMITYVILLE HORROR...with a zombie, although not quite.
Highly recommened for all you zombie freaks out there!

the house is supposed to be haunted except it is not ,it hides a grim secret,a 150 year old surgeon lives in the cellar & murders people to carry out his bizarre experiments in transplants to keep his rotting body
alive! his name is dr.fruedstein .
the film is full of the usual shocks & gore that lucio fulci specialises
in,it also marked the end of his greatest period starting with zombie in 1979.
there are various versions ,the best being blue-underground ,anchor bay &
ec entertainment.
recommended for die-hard italian gore fans ! enjoy!

Hehe. By today's standards, made by such gorefests like "Saw" franchise, "Hostels" or "Martyrs", Fulci's classic should be bit bleak in comparision, yet still goes strong. Read more
