Product Description

Product Description

The master of deduction Sherlock Holmes and his acolyte Dr Watson are here adapted into graphic novel form - a refreshing transformation which seems ''elementary'' for books that have previously been made into films with suspenseful storylines and strong visual elements. Full of intrigue and witty characterisation, The Hound of the Baskervilles takes readers to the Devon moors, where Holmes has to use all his logic to prove that the hound seen near Sir Charles Baskerville's dead body was not a supernatural manifestation of a curse, but the instrument of an earthly murder.

Stunning artwork 21 Dec 2009
By Sarah Durston TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
I've long been obsessed with anything `Holmes' and so felt the compulsion to read this edition of `The Hound of the Baskervilles' even though I think it's an inferior Holmes novel.

The first thing that strikes you is that the artwork is stunning. The characters are portrayed just as I imagine them and the drawings of dimly lit drawing rooms and misty moors are highly evocative. Inevitably some of the plot and dialogue is lost due to the sparseness of the text but with a story such as this, it doesn't matter too much.

Very enjoyable. I can't wait for `A Study in Scarlet' and am a bit miffed that they didn't do the novels in order because that means I'll have to wait to read my favourite!

Very good 29 July 2009
Format:Paperback
I really liked this book. The artwork is excellent and even though, through necessity, sections of dialogue have been lost the story is essentially intact.

However I feel that the comic format causes the story to lose some of its suspence and impact. I do not believe this to be a serious flaw but it is certainly enough to keep it from five stars.

This would be a very good way to introduce a younger reader to the Holmes adventures and as such I applaud it.

This is a wonderfully faithful but, crucially, thoughtfully adapted comic book. There's nothing slavish or lazy about it, nor anything sacrilegious -- both of which are piftalls one would assume this kind of thing would fall readily into it.

The authors clearly love Holmes. And they have done him proud.

The adaptation is stylish and cinematic, but also full of dialogue and descriptions incorporated inventively from the original. The whole thing is full of atmosphere and very well paced.

A masterpiece of writing and illustration. I really, really enjoyed it and all the other books in this series.
