Product Description

Dan Karaty, Kylie Minogue's dance guru, presents this exercise routine aimed at the legs, bums and tums. Features moves from some of Kylie's more famous videos.

From Amazon.co.uk

For the first few minutes of The Hotpants Workout you might think you've tuned into Top of the Pops, as female dancers in skimpy, shimmery--yep you guessed it--hotpants dance around. Choreographer to the stars Dan Karaty maintains that Kylie and Britney have fantastic bodies thanks to dance. But the opening case study of a real dancer who had to get her figure back after a period of inactivity due to illness is unnecessary. It's only once the charming Karaty goes into the workout that there is no doubt he knows how to put across his point: dance is indeed a fun way to get a good body.

The session is divided into six sections which target legs, thighs, burning fat, waist, abs and glutes. "Bounce" features a sexy bounce move, "Slide" is based on a sexy slide from leg to leg, "Rush" is a fast fun section, and by the time you reach the slower "Groove" section you might kid yourself that you're just steps away from looking like Karaty's confident back-up dancers. "Two Step" is the hardest of the six sections in terms of coordination, but it's not impossible. The only disappointing section is the final cooldown. It's not as fun as the rest, and the addition of abs and glutes might complete the fitness aspect but doesn't gel with the rest of the up-beat funky workout. Not for serious fitness fanatics but undeniably fun--and it'll do wonders for your dance-floor cred. --Lorna V

I bought this dvd as im going on holiday in a few months and wanted to tone up for the beach. I did it for a week to start with and lost half an inch off my legs, hips and waist! That wasnt even doing it everyday! I stopped for a few weeks due to other commitments and now just started again, and after 3 days i can already see a difference again!

The dvd is fun to do, some of the moves take a little longer than others! I have terrible co-ordination so the last 2-step section is way too hard for me! but im picking up the rest easily!

one thing i would say is that if your not toned already the cool down section especially is super hard! the leg stretches and crunches are impossible for someone inflexiable, but if you persevere and do as many as you can you'll notice the difference in no time, im sure im closer to the floor when i stretch down now! how the dancers can hang with their arms scraping the floor ive no idea!

all in all i was extremely surprised to see results in a short space of time, i havent really lost any weight but the toning makes you look a lot slimer, combined with a weight loss programme this dvd is perfect for fast results!

Never considered myself a work-out video person until a (male) friend told me about this. He said 'its fun' - he'd seen Dan on morning tv and thought it just looked like a laugh.
I have the attention span of a goldfish so a work-out video needs to be fun and lively to keep me going. This is the first fitness dvd I've ever bought and I thought it was so great that i went out and bought loads more - but this is the only one I return to.
I was a complete novice but found the steps easy to follow, the best thing is that each move builds on the previous ones so even if you don't get it at first, you get time to practise. The other thing I like is that you can choose how much you throw yourself into it - slide a little more, slide a little less. The middle section 'Rush' is my favourite - but I do pity my downstairs neighbours.
Dan is a natural presenter - engaging and encouraging without being smarmy and the dancers in the back sometimes get it wrong which oddly enough, encourages me. I do feel that I get a workout and it does seem to whizz by. I think that a lot of other fitness dvds could learn from this one and I've been doing it on and off since it came out. One of the strengths of the hotpants workout is that each move is explained well and shown clearly on the screen - I've seen too many when the instructor says now do this whilst his feet move in a blur and you have no idea what you're supposed to do.
My one complaint is the music which gets a bit annoying after a while. Yep, it took a while to get the footwork down pat, but hey you do it at home so who's gonna see if you mess up? The main thing about getting fit is that it should be fun and this certainly is.
Please please please bring out a hotpants workout two - the nearest thing to a worthy successor I've found is the Hip Hop workout which is fun, but a bit tricky to learn and its not always obvious what's going on.

I'm always on the lookout for challenging workouts. I own about 15 exercise videos and DVDs but most of them don't leave me in much of a sweat. So I was really pleased to find that this workout really does up your heart rate. The only other workout that's made me sweat as much is Nell McAndrew's Peak Energy but that was too Army-regimented and boring for my liking.
The Hotpants Workout is perfect for all fitness levels - you can vary the difficulty according to which dancers you copy. There are breaks every ten minutes, which helps when you want some water or need to get your breath back! It's the most fun I've had working out. Some of the moves are a bit tricky but the presenter (Dan Karaty, who's very easy on the eye!) explains them well and mixes in easy steps so you don't feel like you have two left feet.
I liked the feature on the girl who spends six weeks doing the video to lose a stone and a half. You can really see the improvement (although they don't mention whether she also went on a diet during that time).
I'd recommend you get the DVD version of this workout. That way if you're short on time you can just do a few of the ten minute sections (there are six) without having to faff around fast-forwarding.
One slight criticism - the 'cool-down' is quite tough - some intense ab work isn't very relaxing - you might want to do a few further stretches afterwords. Also, that hotpants bum shot (which appears at the start of each section) is quite annoying!
I'd recommend this workout to anyone who wants to burn fat and loves dancing - there's a lot of opportunity for 'freestyling'. It's also good for the inner thighs - lots of 'slide' movements. It's refreshing to have a male presenter who isn't dressed in lycra. Dan Karaty has a fun approach without coming across as a cheerleader.

I first heard of Hot Pants Workout on This Morning with Fern and Phillip and it looked perfect for me and it is. Most excersize videos I've tried end up in the drawer gathering dust but not this one. I'm un-fit but love to dance so I thought this video would be brilliant. The begining where you hear Hannah's story is good as you can see the effects of doing this workout can have on your body and I watch it everytime I do the video to boost my motivation. Dan definatley knows what he's talking about and makes the workout fun so you don't realise how much work you're doing. And it's not a bad thing that he's GORGEOUS to boot! Some of the moves can be a bit tricky at first especially in the two-step but if you do the video enough you'll pick them up. As regarding to some of the reviews the cool down is very important as helps cool you off and concentrates on toning your muscles you won't get those abs and but if you don't tone. All in all great fun and if you do it often enough you WILL see results!
