Amazon.co.uk Review

For the first few minutes of The Hotpants Workout you might think you've tuned into Top of the Pops, as female dancers in skimpy, shimmery--yep you guessed it--hotpants dance around. Choreographer to the stars Dan Karaty maintains that Kylie and Britney have fantastic bodies thanks to dance. But the opening case study of a real dancer who had to get her figure back after a period of inactivity due to illness is unnecessary. It's only once the charming Karaty goes into the workout that there is no doubt he knows how to put across his point: dance is indeed a fun way to get a good body.

The session is divided into six sections which target legs, thighs, burning fat, waist, abs and glutes. "Bounce" features a sexy bounce move, "Slide" is based on a sexy slide from leg to leg, "Rush" is a fast fun section, and by the time you reach the slower "Groove" section you might kid yourself that you're just steps away from looking like Karaty's confident back-up dancers. "Two Step" is the hardest of the six sections in terms of coordination, but it's not impossible. The only disappointing section is the final cooldown. It's not as fun as the rest, and the addition of abs and glutes might complete the fitness aspect but doesn't gel with the rest of the up-beat funky workout. Not for serious fitness fanatics but undeniably fun--and it'll do wonders for your dance-floor cred. --Lorna V

I was very pleasantly surprised by this DVD, I bought it along with Nell McAndrew and Davina after my boyfriend suggested it - I thought it sounded a bit of a joke. Haven't even played the other two yet, I am hooked on this! Been doing it two and a half weeks around 4 nights a week, along with swimming on Saturdays, and have noticed quite a difference, more toned and smaller thighs and midriff. No weight loss yet, but I don't trust scales anyway. I look and feel better, so I'm happy! And you really don't notice the time go by doing this workout. Slightly repetitive in places but always fun and I am uncoordinated and can do it, so give it a try!

Easy to say - loved this dvd!! Bought it with a few others, and its definately my fave!
Maybe its the lack of a celebrity that helps, as the focus is most definately on the workout (even the skimply-clad girls didn't get annoying!)
Workout is split into nice simple sections, and lasts about 50min in total, with music for each section. didn't know any of it - but maybe that helps.. u don't get distracted with various things, then try to pull these workout moves if you ever hear the song anywhere!
Routines aren't too difficult- easily picked up within a few watches. But in all it manages to keep you motivated.. success!!

I empathised totally with the dancer at the beginning of the video. It's the bottom half of her body which needs attention...I know how she feels! It's qute motivating to see her at her weekly weigh-ins. Admittedly, you don't need to see this bit every time you work out, so I put the tape on and let it run whilst I change into my workout clothes and move the coffee table. By the time this intro has finished, I'm psyched up and ready to go!

I have real issues with exercise motivation, especially alone and at home, but this video is so much fun, I look forward to getting home from work and getting straight into a workout before eating. I do it every day (and those who know me will know how unfeasible that is!)

The sections are just the right length and pace, and I didn't feel threatened by the dancers behind Dan Karaty. They all have different figures, but look fit and fab! However, don't let Dan tell you that Rush is the hardest section...it's way too much fun to be hard! The abs and glute workout at the end is relentless, but necessary. Dan keeps you focussed by reminding you of your technique, so you really feel the effects. Two Step has some tough footwork in it, but is brilliantly lightened up by Dan encouraging us to freestyle with our arms, and pose (vogue style) in the breaks!

I love this video and it is part of my life now! Even though I am out of breath and sweaty when I finish this workout, it doesn't really register because I've had so much fun! And I feel a certain smugness at being able to do 40 minutes exercise everyday, which is more than my hardcore gym-going friends manage!

Thanks Dan, you've changed my life!

This was hard to keep up with, perhaps I am simply lacking rhythmn though! I could feel my legs and hips working but I don't think it can really be classed as a workout. Read more

Did not enjoy this workout at all, I thought it was seriously boring & turned it off after 40 minutes having not even remotely broken a sweat!

This is a good beginners workout once you learn the moves. It warms you up and then gives a good workout, and the abs exercises are quite good. Read more
