Book Description

10 Jun 2010
'I'm Pooh,' said Pooh. 'I'm Teeger,' said Teeger. 'Oh!' said Pooh, for he hadna ever seen a craitur like this afore. 'Does Christopher Robin ken aboot ye?' 'Of coorse he does,' said Teeger. 'Weel,' said Pooh, 'it's the howe-dumb-deid o the nicht, which is a braw time for gaun tae sleep. And the morn's morn we'll hae some hinny for oor breakfast. Dae Teegers like hinny?' 'They like awthin,' said Teeger cheerily. 'Weel, if they like gaun tae sleep on the flair, I'll awa back tae ma bed,' said Pooh, 'and we'll dae things in the mornin.' Following on the success of Winnie-the-Pooh in Scots, here comes the second volume of stories featuring Pooh, Wee Grumphie, Heehaw, Hoolet and all the other creatures of the Forest, and introducing the strippit bampot Teeger. The House at Pooh's Corner was first published in 1928 and is a classic of children's literature. This edition contains the original Ernest Shepard illustrations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Winnie the Scot?? 17 Aug 2010
A Kid's Review
Format:Paperback
I bought this for my Glaswegian son-in-law. He's an ex-pat living in deepest Sussex, hoping he will enjoy reading it to our grandson. He says he can hear the Scots as he reads it to himself. I read a couple of chapters and it gave a new voice to the work (I hear Alan Bennet when I read the "normal version").

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud 10 Dec 2011
Format:Paperback
I bought this book at our local National Trust property having read a couple of pages just to make sure - don't want to go wasting bawbees! I have always loved the books about Pooh in English and thought they could not be bettered, but life likes to prove you wrong -this book is even better in the words that James Robertson has chosen. He has used words from my childhood (not yesterday) and words from modern times. As we keep being told English and by association Scots is a living, evolving language and those who have quibbled about the authenticity of the language used in the previous Pooh book might do well to acknowledge this. I laughed out loud, and read it to my husband who also laughed out loud. If you wish to laugh out loud this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic. 27 Mar 2012

Format:Paperback
Bought it for a ninety two year old relative who apparently laughed throughout. Pure tonic. Who needs Socrates when you have Pooh? Recommend that you have some knowledge of the lingo though...
