ACTION-turned-supernatural-suspense writer Carsten Stroud revisits Niceville, a town in the southern States and the title of the first book in this series. Back comes Nick Kavanaugh, inevitably a former Special Forces soldier, who’s now in local law
enforcement.

Him and his missus Kate, a lawyer, have adopted the odd and oddly-named 10-year-old Rainey Teague, who featured heavily in the last book. The kid is a right pain in the butt for his new guardians at the best of times, but now he’s acting up even worse – like his ancestors, who were pretty bad. Spookiness abounds as they search for clues as to what’s going on with the kid – and they don’t have to look much further than their own back yard.

Kavanaugh’s got even more on his plate with thieving cop killers, stolen millions, a mob enforcer, a plane crash and a gaggle of suspiciously missing persons. Chuck in an old ghost story and an Indian no-go area and you’re deep in Stephen King country – and loving it!

This is the follow up to "Niceville" which was a bit hit and miss, but "The Homecoming" is most definitely a hit, a real guilty pleasure of a book, moves at breath-taking speed with wonderful characters and top notch writing.
It is a whole new genre of a book, it's like a hard nosed crime thriller which has accidentally strayed into Stephen King territory!
Exceedingly well written, with really interesting characters, and you really never know what's going to happen next, and how can you not love a book which has a character called Lemon Featherlight
I cant wait for the follow up.

Whilst I had problems with the original, this second offering from Carsten really seemed to work so much better (although it could be because I'm not used to his writing style.) The prose was sharp, the author brought all the sort of things I expected form the original into this title and when added to some backstory carefully placed within, worked a whole lot better for me as a reader.

Add to this a very sharp story-arc, some cleverly plotted twists alongside some other misdirection as the author drip fed the reader the clues, all round works wonderfully. Great stuff.
