In 1838 and 1839, painter David Roberts traveled throughout Egypt and across the Sinai Peninsula to Petra, Jerusalem, and Palestine. The lithographs based on the sketches and paintings he produced during these trips won him fame that endures to this day.

In fact I bought this book on my way back from Egypt in January this year. I saw it before at the Museum in Cairo but a bit too heavy to bring back on the plane. The book gives an excellent view on was Egypt a century and more ago. Also a good view on Palestine before it became what it is today a poor colony of a merciless occupying army.
