Michael Marrus's account of the Holocaust is one of the most readable books on the subject. As a mature student studying Jewish History, this was one of the first books I read. As an overview, it left little or nothing out, covering all essential aspects from the causes, through to public opinion in the rest of Europe, the actual course, including the many bystanders and also those who risked life and limb to assist. The subject of Jewish resistance, often omitted in earlier books was well handled, as was the termination of the Holocaust. For any reader remotely interested in the Holocaust, this is the book I most recommend as an introduction to the subject. The style of writing should appeal to all ages. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
