Book Description

8 May 2008 Sign of Seven Trilogy (Book 2)
In the small village of Hawkins Hollow, three best friends who share the same birthday sneak off into the woods for a sleepover the evening before turning 10. But a night of pre-pubescent celebration turns into a night of horror as their blood brother oath unleashes a three-hundred year curse. Twenty-one years later, Fox O'Dell and his friends have seen their town plagued by a week of unexplainable evil events two more times - every seven years. With the clock winding down on the third set of seven years, someone else has taken an interest in the town's folklore. A boutique manager from New York, Layla Darnell was drawn to Hawkins Hollow for reasons she can't explain - but the recent attacks on her life make it clear that it is personal. And though Fox tries to keep his professional distance, his interests in Layla have become personal too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Scary Stuff 29 Aug 2014
By M. J. Saxton VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback
This second book in the Sign of Seven trilogy focuses on Fox and Layla – the lawyer and the fashion salesgirl. Their special little power is to be sensitive to feelings and thoughts in the present and they sure need it as the intrepid six pursue the demon that was Lazarus Twisse.

Unlike many sequel books this one loses none of the tension of the first and doesn’t feel like a time-wasting bridge between the first and third books. It has its share of nasty moments and, yes, they are getting more chilling as the demon gains power.

Of course there is the developing of the relationship between Fox and Layla as we had between Quinn and Cal in the last book. This is where Roberts falls down slightly because this relationship is almost a replay of the last, with the same uncertainties, tempers and temptation finally leading to the odd sexy scene which is just enough, but not squirmingly too much for this kind of book.

We learn a lot more about families and how the town blocks out the violent and deadly seven year curse between times. The town and its people are portrayed with a conviction that brings them clearly off the page.

There is a nice little twist in the story of Fox’s former lover and a great climax that bodes well for the third book.

4.0 out of 5 stars *Much* better than part one... 20 Oct 2010
By Nicola F (Nic) TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
I have to be honest, I felt the first part of this trilogy fell a little flat in places, but once I start a Nora Roberts saga, I generally finish it, regardless. I'm happy to say that this one was much better than part one, but I will caution that these books have to be read in order. There's a bit of a recap in this story as to what's happened previously, but it's not overly complex; if you're starting this series from book two, you may find yourself a little bit confused- there's a few characters kicking about and their relationships are all intermingled, so you need to read the first part to find out how they got established.

The first book `Blood Brothers' saw the setting of the scene, the back story if you will, for the evil, unspeakable events that take place on the seventh day of the seventh month, every seven years in a small town in the United States, Hawkins Hollow. This evil was accidentally unleashed by three ten-year-old boys, boys who are now men, who feel a responsibility for protecting their town and everyone in it against the madness that ensues. The book also saw the establishing of the first romantic relationship of the trilogy- between Cal Hawkins (one of the descendents of the towns founders) and Quinn Black. There is a brief recap of events, but it is not overly complex, which I found good to be honest- this book gets straight to the action, following on immediately from part one- all the more reason to read them in order.

This book focuses on lawyer Fox O'Dell and newcomer Layla, who was drawn to Hawkins Hollow after having strange dreams about it. Together, she and Fox share a connection, one that may save the town from the clutches of its nightmare. Will this year be the year that the events of The Seven finally come to an end?

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent middle chapter 11 May 2008
Format:Paperback
This is a fantastic follow on from blood brothers and was consumed in one night. Ms Roberts is a genius at trilogy's and this part concers Fox and Layla, as well as giving more insight into Gage and Cybil who will complete the trilogy in December. As always her dialoque between the characters will have you laughing one moment and swollowing a lumb in your throught the next, and as the six try desperately to defeat the evil, MS Roberts builds up the tension expertly that before you are aware of it, you are at the edge of your seat. My only question, Why make us wait till December till the end?
