Format:Paperback
The Hollow Lands is the second novel in Moorcock's The Dancers at the End of Time trilogy, and follows on from An Alien Heat. Middle books in trilogies are often difficult, and while readable The Hollow Lands does suffer a little from repeating the same situations from the previous volume, as decadent End of Time dweller Jherek once again travels back to Victorian time to meet his beloved Mrs Underwood, and once again falls foul of the law. Along the way we bump into HG Wells, and there's a new race of alien visitors for the End of Time-ers to get into difficulties with, but its not really until the novels closing moments that the narrative really moves forward, with an examination of cyclic time and the revelation as to why Mrs Underwood was sent forward in time in the first place.

A pleasant, amusing continuation, albeit one that seems to be treading water at times.

The madness continues 31 May 2010

I love Jherek Carnelian and Mrs. Underwood's adventures. This is a ridiculous story, but wait til you meet Captain Mubbers and crew. A time-traveling adventure of warped chaos and discord. Not as funny as An Alien Heat, but still a fun adventure. Time will never be the same.

Jherek Carnelian has come to understand that he is in love with Amelia Underwood. So much so that he even did some time travelling of his own because of his feelings.

This travelling has caused more problems for both of them, but now Jherek must find a way to travel again.
