Product Description

When Diane Ingleby is shot, DI John Handford and DS Kahlid Ali are called in to investigate. It soon emerges that Diane's husband, Maurice, is involved with the BNP, and it seems his wife might have been caught in the middle. It's a sensitive case, and Handford and Ali are joined by trainee DC Parvez Miah - son of an influential local Muslim community leader. But when Miah's wife is found badly beaten, it seems that the Inglebys may not be the only family with skeletons in the cupboard. Tension mounts as accusations fly from all sides with the approach of the local elections - but everyone is silent where it matters most. Is it shame, honour, or old-fashioned fear that's keeping everyone quiet? Handford and Ali must find out before another woman is silenced - permanently.

laboured "thriller" 13 Jan 2007
Format:Paperback
I have read all the books in the DI Handford series and this is a major disappointment. The previous books were a good read but this is mediocre in comparison. DI Handford is bland in the extreme; whilst some detectives' private lives and maverick characters can sometimes detract from the plot, if DI Handford had something interesting to add, it might have actually rescued the slow burning, clunky and frankly unbelievable plot. Compared with writers such as Graham Hurley and Jim kelly, whose descriptions of their leading characters and their environments add an immense amount to their books, there is little or no descriptive element to this book. Mediocre and not worth reading - I only finished it as i had a bout of flu and this was the only book to hand!

Same old, same old... 20 July 2007
Format:Hardcover
I have read other books from Lesley Horton and quite enjoyed them, but this one did not really do it for me. I felt at one point that I was re-reading a previous book of hers and lost interest in the story altogether. I hope Lesley shows us she really does have more books in her than the ones she has already written.

By Cindy M
Format:Hardcover
I was given this book as a gift, by someone who had seen me read earlier books by Leslie Horton. This particular title was a disappointment, it seemed to follow a familiar pattern, and characters were very thin, there was hardly any quality to her descriptive writing, and there were errors in procedure.

I recommend reading it in paperback, if you get a very good deal on the price.

The copy of this book I read had very small print.

I see readers here seem quite divided, either saying the book is very good, or rather poor. Read more

This is a pretty tedioius novel - the characters are one-dimensional, the identity of the killer is obvious and the whole investigation fails to convince. Read more
