There's a serious purpose here too – 'as David Blunkett said of Hold Ye Front Page'. Accompanying table, charts and text provide the real historical background. And ther's a full index to help you navigate round the book more easily.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hold ye front page 2 19 Jan 2003
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Having not read the first in this 2 part series from the Sun,I didn't really know what to expect. What really caught my eye at first was the front cover, depicting a reporter trying to intervies a dinosaur. The back showed him being eaten. This was not only visually amusing, but also intriguing as to how they made this. The dinosaur seemed so real,so lifelike.
Opening the cover, the first page again shows the title, " Hold ye front page 2,21 billion years of pre-hisotry in the Sun ",along with the names of the authors,John Perry and Niel Roberts.
Next comes the contents page, nothing new here. Then the foreword by the authors, explaining how everything is taken into account, the religious side and scientific side, allmixed into one. They go onto explain how they decided on the dates.Without reading this page you may not understand the book.
Everything is explained here from before the big bang to the birth of Christ. On the right, there is factual infomation and a timeline of what happened in the decades surrounding the event, and when necessary, there is biblical information. Also on that page is a countdown to the birth of christ,in days.
On the left is the event as the sun would depict it,with thought of the day, pice, and date. There are there are also jokey headlines and reporter names,so when you come to a page about the biblical story of Noah's ark,you get the headline " It's raining , it's pouring , the old man is sawing..." by Claud Burst. There is also an article of the event, and occasional givaways and information on what's inside e.g pages 4 and 5.
On famous articles such as the story of Moses of Anthony and Cleopatra, there are inside pages as well .
The format is good, with even amounts of pictures and information.
Almost any avaliable event's are included,up to the birth of Christ.
After the main part, there is the index, and finally the acknowledgements.
I forgot to mention earlier,on the back cover there are reviews by other newspapers and wellknown people .
This book is great for people young and old alike, and has enough factual information to be used for schools, and children will enjoy the lever put in jokes, and so will adults. Some children will not get some of the jokes , but will still find the book very entertaining.
I strongly recommend this book for anyone interested in history or humor or anyone else for that matter.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE SUN HOLD YE FRONT PAGE II 6 Mar 2006
By freddy 57 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I bought this for my wife as a keen reader of the Sun for about the last twenty years. What I got turned out to be a fantastic 'tabloid history' of prehistoric life and early man, I could'nt stop reading it! though apparently designed for children - who would love this I'm sure - there is plenty for adults here, who would perhaps more fully appreciate typical Sun trademarks, the rhyming headlines, ect that have been skewed here in the name of education. Highest recommendation, ages 5 - 50
