Review

'If you are familiar with Quinlan's other fine work you will not be surprised to find yourself in his Elmore Leonard-esque criminal world, slightly translated into the near future. If you haven't had the pleasure, you have a treasure in store'

(Courier Mail, Australia )

'The story cracks along at a terrific pace and the bad guys are first rate'

(Mail on Sunday )

Product Description

A gripping and twisting treat of a novel for fans of Tarantino and Elmore Leonard

Handsome ladies' man Jonah Maxwell is working as a bounty hunter for El Gordo (the Fat One), who picked up his nickname from an admiring prostitute. Gordo has a plan: to catch a runaway felon who’s worth $250,000 to the City of New York. The guys are in hot pursuit of Davis Foerster, a social misfit with a bad habit of murdering little old ladies, when they come across Tyler Gant – Vietnam vet, weapons expert and secret serial killer. Foerster is working on a murderous plot for Gant, and the attentions of Jonah and Gordo are seriously unwelcome. Trailing Foerster to Key West, the two are set for a violent showdown on a houseboat on storm-tossed seas. Not just their own lives but those of Tyler Gant's countless targeted victims are at stake...

Is it like Tarantino like the synopsis says, yes I think it is. This has car chases, raging storms, some great laughs, twists and some brilliant crazy characters.
Really liking Quinlan's books. This time he has two bounty hunters, one good looking bored wife, two mad crazy villains, two lesbians and their dog. The ending to the book involves a explosion, guns, bodies, all set in a storm on a boat. Then add a double cross and not knowing who might survive at the end of the book, and it all adds up to a brilliant plot, well executed.
Try this and enjoy, I did and I hope others will to.

I read this one because I had read this author's two earlier books, Smoked and The Takedown. Smoked was fast-moving and fun. The Takedown was darker and moodier. This one, The Hit, is like a car crash between Smoked and The Takedown. It's fast-moving, fun, dark and moody.

It's like Mad Max meets the Housing Crisis. In some near future, after America's economy has collapsed, two bounty hunters, one white and one black, search for a mad scientist who's been hired to make the soup for a bio-terror attack. They smash through one barrier after another, following their prey from New York to Key West, through the post-collapse society. Along the way, they encounter criminal masterminds, enforcers, a bored sexy housewife, and finally wind up in a vicious shoot-out on a houseboat loaded with bio-weapons, that's sinking during a storm at sea. Crazy stuff.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a fast, funny, exciting, page-turner. I'd recommend Smoked and The Takedown also, especially Smoked.

This is a great story beautifully told. The plot is well paced with heroes who are likeable rogues and baddies who are suitably despicable.
In addition to 'The Hit' I've also read 'Smoked' and I highly recommend them both.
